Its a 5 min. deal to make a 6040 into a 7040. :D

If I'm not mistaken, the 7040 ships with 16.9-30 tires whereas the 6040 defaults with 16.9-28. Slightly shorter. The 6040 does not come with a limited slip front axle either.

Good point about the limit slip, I hadn't thought about that difference.

Me too and I REALLY like the limited slip differential.

Me too, I RARELY use my rear diff lock. In most cases the tractor will move with one front tire in the air without using the diff lock.

The only times we have used ours was when we were cleaning out a pond and when digging with the HR3584 in hard ground, otherwise traction is not an issue.

We and by "we", I mean my sons, mow around several big ponds and "they" occasionally get a wheel or two into the pond which more often than not got our Case CX80 stuck, but they have never been stuck with the M8540.

I actually do mow around ponds too, but leave a decent margin, when they mow, it is down to the water; not me, no way no how.

I thought the 5140's come with the 28's and the 6040 has the 30's.
My 5x4 baler says 50hp min. I think the 7040 works well for it but I don't believe a small square baler is going to be the same and 8hp less will not affect you. We used a NH315 with a 43hp tractor and pulled hills and everything fine.
