Dont screw with the injection pump uless you have a shop manual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need metric wrenches to do the work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the lead seal and copper were still in place on the fuel adjustment screw and lock nut??
You will be in a world of hurt if you make mistake.
You most likely need to treat the diesel fuel with a bacteria killing fuel treatment "Heet" is one
brand of fuel treatment.
An indirect injection behaves differently than a direct injection engine. Do you know which type of engine you have????
If the fuel tank has a sediment bowl it may be plugged with dirt and water.
NOW, you may have water in the diesel fuel which is most likely one of the two issues.
Throw the old air filter outr and get a new one!!!!!!!!!!! if there is a safety element change that one as well.
Air filters are much less costly than engines. Did you examine the chaff screen in front of thr radiator??????

Drain out the old fuel and pour in some new fuel, new air filters and some Sea Foam or Heet AFTER you clean the sediment bowl.
You need to know how to bleed the air out of the fuel system if it is an indirect injection engine and you need to ask a dealer how to do this if you do not have a shop manual.
Your fuel pump may also be sucking air through a copper washer used to seal one of the two banjo bolts on the injection pump if it has a indirect injection engine with a Bosch injection pump.
