1023E John Deere
John Deere 1023E Lemon
Model Year: 2013

Got the new John Deere 1023E delivered 06/03/2013 equipped with FEL & MMM. Mowed 20 hrs & the drive shaft connector to the MMM broke. The drive shaft is dangling. Sat from 07/23/13 until it was picked up by the dealer on 07/31/2013 & here it is over 30 days later and another payment later it has not been returned yet! The dealer says because the JD 1023E is so new, they are having trouble getting the parts they need to fix it. I am NOT a happy John Deere customer at all! This is a 16K tractor it should run for a lot longer than 20 hours before needing a major repair. The dealer says that the 1023E is manufactured with a cheap pin connecting the drive shaft to the deck. Are you kidding me? This 1023E replaced a JD 235GT which performed effortlessly for 10 years. I cannot recommend this John Deere 1023E and feel like I have been ripped off. John Deere used to stand for quality, but in my opinion, those days are sadly over.

Pros: Runs fine when it runs but should last longer than 20 hrs. before needing to be sent in for service.
Cons: Cheaply engineered & built, if looking for a new SCUT, look elsewhere.

1023E John Deere
Great SCUT
Model Year: 2012

I've been able to drive my 1023e enough to know it'll handle anything I throw at it on my tract of land. We recently had over 6" of rain, which caused my dam to breach. I was able to move 16 yards of packing clay to dam to repair in one day. I've also found that tilling is a breeze with my 48" tiller. Personally my seat is very comfortable to sit on for long hours. The only problem I've encountered was having to adjust the mid PTO up to align with 54" drive over deck. After that no problem. I would recommend rear counter weights when moving a loaded bucket. Yanmar Diesels never lugs. 4 wheel drive is an added plus that I really didn't think I needed. But it has come in handy. Foldable ROPS was perfect so I can pull into shed for storage. I've been very pleased with the quick attachment features for deck and loader.

Pros: Built in America.Tough.
Cons: Plastic rear fenders.

1023E John Deere
Overall Satisfied with the 1023E
Model Year: 2012

I bought this tractor mainly for mowing, light gardening stuff and low duty loader work. It has met all my expectations and exceeded some. I got the H120 loader (no pins!), 54D Deck with autoconnect, and added on a JD tiller by Fronteer. I built my own rotary broom and pallet forks for lifting. It seem JD makes their money on the attachments which is one reason I built some of my own things. I have about 2 1/2 acres with grass, irrigation ditch, and garden. The loader really helps to keep ditch clean and flowing. It can get in and out of tight places, the 4wd is awesome, and loader actually does a good job for such a small tractor. I am now learning I can store things high in my garages on pallets and use the tractor to fetch them. The bucket goes on/off so easy when I switch to the pallet forks, that it is no inconvenience to store the tiller and other clunky things high out of the way. I actually created more space now than ever! The mower goes right through the grass as expected. The auto-connect feature is awesome. However, if you are going to get a broom and want to use it in the summer, watch out. The auto-connect needs to be removed to accommodate the broom (another reason I built my own broom, as a rear mount). I am a little disappointed I did not get the mulch kit or a grass catcher. I get a lot of trailings and I need to figure out what to do about it now. Also, it would be nice if the rollbar folded even lower or better was removeable quick connect like because I have fruit trees with low branches, it is a little extra effort to navigate even when it is folded. The tiller is also fantastic. I used to use a big Troybuilt walk behind tank type tiller. It was good exercise. Now I am getting fat. No actually I save a lot of time and move on to other things. I didn't get the standard tiller, the dealer set me up with one they had and a good deal. It is an inch wider than the 647 tiller and will shift/offset to the side of the tractor if needed to get under trees easier. I like it. Gotta keep a lot grease around to keep things up. This is the only tractor I ever owned so I have nothing to compare it to. Based on my limited research, I got this one because of the autoconnect and quick connect features. I am happy overall.

Pros: Quick connect.
Cons: Folding roll bar doesn't quick connect.

1023E John Deere
John Deere 1023e
Model Year: 2012

I bought the subcompact JD 1023e for my 2+ acre property. Along with the tractor, I bought the 54" mower deck, 47" snow blower and the bucket. So far, I have used every attachment. I have about 1.5 acres of lawn that I mow, a 200'+ driveway to clear (the snow blower has worked without a hitch even with the 30" of snow we got dumped on us during the blizzard), and a wood burning insert in the living room. Moving firewood around the yard has become a pleasure, not a chore, with the bucket. I'm looking forward to all the yardwork I will be able to easily accomplish this year. For my yard, the 1023e is perfect. I chose the 1023e over the 1026r because my father has a JD 3320 with a backhoe attachment. I can borrow his tractor any time, so I didn't need the revoloving seat as I knew I wouldn't need the backhoe attachment for my tractor.

Pros: Ease of use, reliability, easy on and off of attachments.
Cons: The only con I have so far is that you have to remove the PTO shaft of the snowblower to attach the bucket. It would be nicer if they had designed the stand for the bucket to take into account the shaft, That way, you could detach the snowblower and mount and attach the bucket. This would be useful for hauling wood or making mounds of snow for the kids. Otherwise, no complaints so far.

1023E John Deere
1023 E JD tractor
Model Year: 2012

I enjoy my tractor does everything I need it to do. The build quality is very good but there was a minor alignment issue with rear fenders, the dash fogged up and a minor leak in a hydraulic coupler. All have been repaired.. The dealer Ruim in Lowell, Indiana is a good dealer excellent prices. The only problem is if you have a problem under warranty, there is a charge for pick-up and return. That is my only complaint.

Pros: It's a great tractor for the money.
Cons: Quality control could be a little better.

1023E John Deere
Parts
Model Year: 2012

When ordering parts i.e. auxiliary lights the instructions do not include 1023/1024 model. Wire harness on tractor does not have torpedo plugs for auxiliary lights and when splicing wires lights do not work? Otherwise excellent machine.

Pros: Great machine.
Cons: Literature not up to date.

1023E John Deere
Assembly Problem - Wrong at Deere Factory or Dealer?
Model Year: 2012

Love the little 1012E tractor but have to question the build quality. From day one the 60 auto-connect deck never would cut level and seemed to rattle around. The old Deere 425 was much better cutting the lawn and field. After 16 hours poor mowing performance, I was decide to take a very close look at why the 1023E was not what I expected from a John Deere product. Found two major issues: 1) The two "D-shaped" bushings on the deck lift shaft had be installed on the inside of the main chassis rails and had back out of the chassis rails. This error left the 1" dia. lift shaft flopping around in the 1-1/2" D-shaped holes in the main tractor frame rails. Had to disassemble the lift shaft system to install the D-shaped bushing from the "outside to inside" direction in the main frame rails. 2) Also found the lift shaft linkage to the lift shaft was also assembled 180 degrees out and had be bent to be able to be installed! After spending 4-1/2 hours to correct all the assembly, the 1023E works a expected---it works like a Deere. FYI - I did not go back to the John Deere dealer because it's 90 mile round trip and they would need to keep it for a number of days to even look at it. Was the assembly error a John Deere MFG problem or the John Deere dealer's error. I do not really care I bought a new 1023E John Deere and it was not correct.

Pros: After assembly issue corrected it's a great tractor. Do not know how I lived without a loader in the past.
Cons: Would like larger dia. wheels, small front tires drop into holes in field.

1023E John Deere
JD 1023E, My First Impressions
Model Year: 2011

I just, very recently, purchased my first John Deere tractor. I did my due diligence and looked at many compact tractors within the same category. My choice came down to the Kubota BX2360 vs. JD 1023E. Both in my opinion are very good machines. However, this decision was very close and I decided on the JD 1023E. Although I like some of the JD's controls over the Kubota the decision really boiled down to always wanting a Deere. I purchased the 1023E with a H120 FEL, 54" Auto Connect Mid Mower Deck, 54" Snow Blower and a Curtis Cab. As I get more hours logged with this tractor I will try to update my experience on this forum.

Pros: Ease of removing & installing loader and autoconnect mower deck & all around size of the unit for my needs.
Cons: So far only one, I keep bumping the range selector from neutral into high when dismounting and thus shut off the engine.
