8N Ford
Overall
Model Year: 0

Not having power steering and live PTO is okay for what I use it for.

Pros: Good little tractor. Built like a tank---never had a tank, easy to repair.
Cons: 6 volt battery, front mounted distributor takes a little more time to put on than take off for some reason.

Ford 8N 1952
Model Year: 1952

This year is the first I have had time to really work on her. Needs right rear brake and left rear drag link. It appears the engine and hydraulics were overhauled not too long ago. Wiring is goofy...I think previous owner tried to change over to 12v then changed his mind. Will have to rewire anyway as wiring is not in good shape. Runs pretty well and starts easily. Very happy with the old 8N. I use it to maintain the road and plow snow. Came with a pull behind blade (6') and a box blade.

Pros: Works year round. Great for road maintenance.
Cons: Stalls after an hour, restarts when it cools down (new coil coming).

It's As Old As Me
Model Year: 1949

This old beast is a great little tractor. I mow a few acres with it all summer long and it gives me a lot of value for the money. Each year I replace parts that rot off, wear out or break. But being 64 years old and still running well gives me a lot of satisfaction.

Pros: Cheap to buy, cheap to maintain.
Cons: Old and parts are wearing out.

It's been pretty good. Its a little small for what I need but I take that in consideration. I don't push it very hard. I like it. It has done a good job for me.

Pros: It's small and gets into places a larger tractor can not.
Cons: A little light on power.

1951 Ford
Model Year: 1951

My dad and I found this ol' Ford parked in the woods. It had been sand blasted then the guy died and the wife had it pulled behind her house in the woods to it's final resting place. We picked it up for 500 bucks. It came with a two bottom plow, disk, and a trip bucket. After a couple hours of cleaning the carb, new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, points and condenser. It started. Spent 30 days, tore it apart and repainted it. Looked like a new tractor. If your looking for a tractor for just messing around, food plots, raking hay, ease of use, not hi-tech, do-it-your-self kind of tractor. This is the tractor for you. I just pulled the motor and rebuilt it in two days. How much easier can it get. It didn't really need it, ya it smoked, had some blowby, but ran like a champ.

Pros: Everything.
Cons: Rides like a lumber wagon across the field.

In Praise of The Old 8N
Model Year: 1950

I needed a tractor I could abuse, neglect, and work until I wore out. I have found my old 8N the perfect fit for my needs. Priced at $1,500.00 it needed some TLC but, nothing 100 bucks and a little effort couldn't hash out. I use my tractor for clearing/hauling timber around my plot and small garden chores, which is what this Jurassic beast was made for. What it lacks in modern gizmos it makes up for in ease of maintenance. Affordable, rugged, reliable and being 60 years old obviously built to last.

Pros: Simple, durable, reliable.
Cons: PTO and lift work together or not at all.

My 3rd Ford 8N
Model Year: 1951

I grew up with these tractors on a 150 acre farm in upstate New York. We stressed those suckers to their braking point mowing, raking, haying, planting, hauling wood and liquids and they kept giving. Nowadays, I use one to plow my 1/2 mile long driveway in the winter and mow my fields. It is essentially bulletproof and very easy to work on. Parts are readily available from many suppliers. I found this 1951 non-running in an old barn. I bought it as a parts tractor for my 1948 but I brought it home and rewired it (should be 6V positive ground and the previous owner had someone rewire it incorrectly) and haven't looked back since. I've been steadily restoring the tin and reconditioning the engine. It is simple to diagnose problems and simple to operate. It has adequate power for a number of jobs including plowing, mowing (5' brush hog, 6' flail and 7' cutter bar), and box scraping. If you like to putter, these tractors are for you. If you want a powerful workhorse, look to a larger older tractor or a modern diesel.

Pros: Cheap with plentiful parts and adequate power.
Cons: Generator circuit can be tricky to troubleshoot.

Ford 8N
Model Year: 1949

Tractor offered good bang for the buck for a compact tractor, with a 3 point. I really like the looks and it is easy to use with simple controls. Being its my first tractor, I like the operation of the PTO, but see how it can be a pain. Parts are reasonable and easy to find, given its age that's a real plus, over all the thing is cool.

Pros: Parts easy to find (so far), implements (new and old) are also easy to find.
Cons: Front mount distributor, but can live with.

Cheap tractor, good for minor tasks such as pulling wagons, grading with blade. PTO function does not function well with some power implements (mower).

Pros: Economical, performs adequately within parameters.
Cons: Limited options, antiquated by today's standards.

My 1948 8N
Model Year: 1948

I am a new (old tractor owner) and have only had the tractor a few weeks so I really do not feel qualified yet to realistically write a review. I purchased the tractor with a brush hog but am still learning how to use it. What work I have done on the tractor was easy (rewire head lights, replace PTO). I need to replace the brakes but am waiting until fall.

Pros: Easy to work on.
Cons: Does not do well on hills.
