Ford 3000
Model Year: 1969
I bought a Ford 3000 with a diesel engine seven years ago with a little over 6000 hours on it. It has an 8 speed trans, power steering (from factory), and live PTO with single clutch plate. Two years after I got it, the power steering column started leaking fluid and had to have that replaced. Recently, it started leaking oil from many different places and the PTO lever was hard to engage. After a very small fortune, I got it back from New Holland/Ford and it runs like new. It pulls a 6' bush hog just fine through grass as tall as the hood, and moderately thick. It also pulls a 2 bottom turning plow without much trouble as well as a 6.5' double disc harrow. However, if the disc harrow sinks in as far as it will go into the ground, it bogs the motor down quite a bit at higher ground speeds. For plowing, the draft control is absolutely wonderful and almost takes the work out of plowing! The one thing I really don't like is the oil bath air filter. It works great for filtering the air, but is a pain to check and change every ten hours of use. Imagine trying to hold a bowl of oil to the bottom of a filter with one hand and trying to clamp it on with the other. Exactly as it is called "Oil Bath!" Over all it is a great tractor for 10-25 acres with plenty of power to do most tasks.
Pros: Draft control, power steering, 2.9L diesel engine, easy to work on!
Cons: Oil bath filte
