HORSEGARDENTILLER Troy Bilt
Older Troy Bilt Horse
Model Year: 1980

I bought this used, running but with issues. I've had it in a shop for several months. They work on it when they want to amuse themselves - and it is defying diagnosis. I heard good things about cast iron Kohler motors, but I have yet to experience it in this unit.

Pros: Perceived value.
Cons: Difficult to figure out no spark problem.

HORSEGARDENTILLER Troy Bilt
Troy Bilt Pony Hand Me Down
Model Year: 1998

I tried to add the Troy Bult Pony as an item but it's not going through, I believe the horse is a comparable item. I was given this tiller in slightly used condition from a relative. It is primarily used in my home garden and between the corn rows in a little field behind house. I have uses it on some food plot strips as well on our family farm. The engine and other major components run great and I have had no major problems. I don't use the electric start as the pull start works great and starts first pull, I also don't want to buy another battery trickle charger. I don't run this but to till my garden on the spring and fall really.

Pros: Pull start works great, plenty of power, easy to maneuver in neutral, will till under cornstalks.
Cons: Have had to remove and re-install tires from wheels several times due to air leaks, drive belt good condition but stretched too easily (remedied by making idler pulley wider in diameter using masking and electrical tape), charging system never recharges battery, fuel tank had crack near mounting bolt that I repaired with jb weld.

HORSEGARDENTILLER Troy Bilt
Engine Swap Troy Bilt Tiller
Model Year: 1982

My 6hp Tecumseh engine locked up and I replaced it with a predator engine- #69727 212cc OHV horizontal shaft gas engine - EPA & Carb from Harbor Freight. This engine was used on my Troy Bilt Horse Tiller replacing the 6 HP Tecumseh engine. Swap was very easy to do and Engine bolted right up with no problems. Had to use a 5/16 by 24 thread bolt for the shaft and also replaced the bolts bolting the engine up to the PTO which are also 5/16 by 24. Was easy to start on initial startup, let it run under no load for a few minutes shut it off and restarted on the first pull.

Pros: Easy to start, dependable, quiet and good power output.
Cons: None.
