JD 2520
Model Year: 2011
I have been very happy so far with the 2520. I marked value as a 4 instead of 5 because you do pay more for green. However, I do not regret it one bit. I got a FEL, 62D mid mount mower, 60" rotary cutter and a front blade for snow removal. I've used all except for the front blade. My final decision came down between the 2520 and a Kubota B3200 - not the normal comparison I know. My local Cub dealer did not have a SX3100 to test, and it was going to be more expensive than the Deere, and the other brands are many miles away. The deciding factors came down to mostly ergonomics. I like the left hand brake pedal. I live on a hill and like being able to rest my foot on the brake for immediate use while moving. I also liked the location of the reverse pedal better. iMatch was a plus with the rotary cutter, and it works as advertised. Two other factors led to my decision. The Deere weighs more, and in my mind, that tells me it is built stronger and should last longer. Another factor was the PTO horsepower. The 2520 is rated at 26.5 HP with a PTO at 20.5. The Kubota is rated at 32 HP with a PTO of 23. That seems more efficient to me, but I don't know if it really is. Kubota is also rated at 100 more RPM, so in theory, you are working the engine harder to get that HP rating. I ended up buying from my home town dealer 60 miles away instead of the local one. The local one gave me more of a 'car salesman' impression, and my home town one was almost $1000 cheaper. The local one also told me that I did not need to load my tires for FEL. Every other dealer I spoke to immediately quoted loaded tires with FEL. Two speed ranges have not been a problem. I mow and brush hog in low, and it has been fast enough - in fact the only time I press the forward control down all the way is going up and down my driveway. It may be a factor with a level ground, but I have very little of that. The biggest negative is that it is easy to tear up the grass when mowing. I have industrial tires. I am learning to not turn as sharp which is helping. I also minimize the use of 4WD, but I need it in certain parts of my yard. This would probably be a problem with any tractor this size.
Pros: Build quality, ergonomics, iMatch, drive over mower.
Cons: Price, lawn damage in certain areas.
