Kubota L5740-HST3
Model Year: 2012
I am VERY happy with my tractor. My machine is outfitted with FEL (including 3rd function valve), 2 rear remotes plumbed to top and tilt cylinders, block heater, and rear tires(R1) loaded with rimguard. Rear end implements I use are a 6' brush hog, box blade, and 3pt carry-all box. FEL attachments are HD bucket, pallet forks, and root grapple. The L5740 is a lot of power in a very maneuverable package. I do equal amounts of work in the woods as I do in an open field, and I have been able to get everywhere I need to get the job done. Fuel usage has been reasonable. Controls are well placed in the "cockpit". Everything is right where I instinctively reach for it, and that was one of the main selling points for me. I spent time on similarly sized JD and Kioti machines before purchasing, and while those are both high quality manufacturers, I found that the Kubota felt much more natural to me as an operator. Kubota has a reputation for great hydro-static transmissions, and in my experience it has lived up to the billing. The diesel fires up fast and has plenty of power. I have had no problems at all with the turbo. The biggest thing to remember with that is to give it a minute to cool at idle before shutting it down. Maintenance has been a breeze with all of the fluid ports and grease fittings easily accessible. I have no real complaints about the machine. Getting in and out of the cockpit can be a little inconvenient if you need to access something on the right side. There is only access on the left with the open station design because of the placement of the FEL joystick. Not a huge issue (I was aware before I purchased), but I notice it every once and a while. Also, there is more power in the machine than there is weight, but this is the same challenge you find on every CUT. So traction can be an issue if you don't have enough ballast. 4WD helps equalize that, and the loaded rears are almost a must (especially with a lot of loader work). Also, I typically run with the box blade on for a little extra traction and ballast for lifting. Again, not really a complaint because I would rather have the power than not. It is pretty easy to add weight, but not so much with power. My dealer (Alexander Equipment) and Kubota have both gone the extra mile to make the buying experience great. Post purchase support has been just as good.
Pros: A lot of power in a very maneuverable package.
Cons: None.
