265 Massey Ferguson
My Massey
Model Year: 1977

Good all around tractor. I've done a lot with it .

Pros: Strong for its size; Nice and short.
Cons: I wish it had glow plugs. In the winter, it's hard to start.

Simple, Solid, Sound, Super!
Model Year: 1980

A very simple, incredibly reliable, highly efficient tractor. I baled 110 4 x 5 round bales with a NH 848 on about 5 gallons of fuel. Mine has multi-power, 2 sets of remotes from the factory, and adjustable width tracks on the rear wheels. 3 furrow plow is about all it can handle in hilly fields. Nothing more than a 10 foot set of disks. Nobody will believe how little fuel it uses when you tell them!

Pros: Highly reliable, extremely fuel efficient, very cheap after-market and rebuilt parts.
Cons: Simple design means not so ergonomic - controls not easy to reach.

I Believe How Easy It Is On Fuel
Model Year: 1977

Not much to say about this old gal really - people know the Perkins A4-236. Brought mine in for an overhaul and they sent me home saying that she's running fine. Its big enough to run a big round baler, small enough to fit in a small garage and on a car trailer, high enough for dashing through the snow, and it can pull! When the chains are on its perfectly fine for snow removal. When this tractor is on a car trailer a half-ton pick-up truck can pull it around without any major problems. The front end is a little light but parts are stupid-cheap and its easy to fix up. That would be the only knock on this tractor. If you own one and fuel is expensive, you will find yourself using it for everything because of how little it drinks. Parts are everywhere and cheap as dirt! Bought a new starter on eBay for $129 delivered. Full engine overhaul kit is $600 and change. Just go to SSB or eBay and see for yourself. I rate the dealer at 4 instead of 5. As a general rule they seem to be perpetuating the idea that parts for this series 2X5 are getting hard for them to come by. This may be true for the dealers, but if you can use a computer, you could probably build one of these from parts you order online - SSB even has the sheet metal!

Pros: Fuel, reliability, size, versatile, parts availability, every mechanic knows them.
Cons: Uncomfortable, a little awkward to operate, ugly.
