KX41-2
I am making a thumb for my KX41-2. Are the thumb arms supposed to land on the teeth of the bucket or on the cutting edge of the bucket? Does it not matter? On my backhoe it worked out easier to land on the bucket, on this one I can play with bushings to land either place. Shown is my plywood template. Thanks

I had one built to fit my hoe.

Designed it to meet on the teeth.

I don't think it much matters, except making them interweave will allow for the tighter closing which might be desireable.

Kubota Factory meets between the teeth

I have a Geith bucket and thumb. The thumb arms fit between the teeth when closed.

My B26 meets between the teeth also. Also you may want to design the thumb with an inside curvature rather than straight. This will allow it to hold much better than a straight edge as you have pictured.

IMG_2085.JPGThanks for the replies, the cut out is a copy of the one I made for the backhoe, straight for ease of making, it works ok for moving rocks and holding logs for firewood.IMG_2083.JPG I was going to use plow cutting edge for this one and though for ease of cutting. I will look at commercial ones to see how much curve to add.

Mine bypass the teeth by just a bit. Its also pinned on with the same pin as the bucket. My thumb is flat with one tooth each at the end. I can still pickup 20in logs.

Back in 2005, I needed something for picking up dead limbs. Had some scarifiers that I bolted on the backhoe.
I set them back so the bucket edge would just bypass the tooth and miss the shank, worked good for making brush piles:
