Kerosene - what is it?

is anyone using straight home heating oil 100% in their tractor? I was thinking if the truck comes to fill the home heating tank, way not have them fill a 55 drum with it for the tractor as well.
Do a search in this forum. You will find that plenty of people do. In fact, some places sell HHO as off-road diesel.

However, you will probably find that HHO does not contain any of the additives that are now put into diesel fuel. It would be wise to mix some additives like Power Service if you plan on using HHO.

Once again I suggest you spend some time and search this forum as you will find many pros and cons to using HHO exclusively in your tractor.

while some people may use it, its not generally considered an acceptable fuel by most engine manufacturers.

I'll quote Detroit Diesel on this one

"dETROIT DIESEL ALLISON DESIGNS DEVELOPS AND MANUFACTURES COMMERCIAL DIESEL ENGINES TO OPERATE ON DIESEL FUELS CLASSIFIED BY THE ASTM AS DESIGNATION D-975. (GRADES 1D AND 2D) THESE GRADES ARE VERY SIMILAR TO GRADES DF1 AND DF2.

RESIDUAL FUELS AND FURNACE OILS ,GENERALLY, ARE NOT CONSIDERED SATISFACTORY FOR DETROIT DIESEL ENGINES.

IN SOME REGIONS FUEL SUPPLIERS MAY DISTRIBUTE ONE FUEL THAT IS MARKETED AS EITHER DIESEL FUEL (ASTM 975) OR DOMESTIC HEATING FUEL ( ASTM D-396) SOMETIMES IDENTIFIED AS FURNACE OIL.

and Cummins

CUMMINS ENGINE COMPANY RECOMMENDS THE USE OF ASTM NO.2D FUEL. THE USE OF NO.2 DIESEL FUEL WILL RESULT IN OPTIMUM ENGINE PERFORMANCE.

AT TEMPERATURES BELOW 32 F ACCEPTABLE PERFORMANCE CAN BE OBTAINED BY USING BLENDS OF NO.2D AND NO. 1 D. THE USE OF LIGHTER FUELS CAN REDUCE FUEL ECONOMY.

However, Detroit diesels and Cummins diesels are not used in our CUTS. There are plenty of references here about people using HHO. As has been reported here by many people, in some parts of the country the dealers are claiming they are selling HHO as their off-road fuel. If it were really bad then I would think they would be getting complaints.

I personally have no problems using HHO on a limited basis. However, my preference is for real diesel fuel.

HHO wilL work,so will JP and kerosene but long term use can reduce life of certain components and short term disadvantages can be hard starting or smoke.

HHO isn't guaranteed to be a certain cetane rating or CLEAN.
by clean it may have more dirt and sediment.

I would hate to buy injection equipment because I saved money on fuel, the injection system is the most expensive part on most engines.

Like every other imaginable oil and fuel related topic, this has been discussed ad nauseum in the past. :)

In many places, home heating oil and diesel fuel are the same product. Some places they are not. Ask your fuel supplier.

As is mentioned in all the other threads where this has been discussed, some suppliers state the same product that goes into their diesel fuel tanks is the exact same product that goes into their HHO tanks. Hence the need to ask your supplier.

If I mix up a huge batch of a couple of hundred gallons of HHO, JP, Kero, BD, RED, ATF, MMO, LSD, and maybe some ULSD to use throughout the New Year, what would be a good percentage of each to use?

I take exception with Wikipedia:

These were superseded by the electric light bulb and flashlights powered by dry cell batteries. Now it is mainly used in fuel for jet engines (more technically Avtur, Jet-A, Jet-A1, Jet-B, JP-4, JP-5, JP-7 or JP-8).

Kerosene, aka, Jet-A, is in no way similar to JP-5. JP-5 is closer to naptha. We hauled JP-5 for the military and the previous load on the truck could not be anything but JP-5 or gasoline (no diesel or Jet-A) otherwise the truck was disqualified from hauling JP-5. They took samples and analyzed them prior to loading.

Don't forget, Wikipedia is written by anyone who wants to. Much like this forum. Just because it's on Wikipedia dosen't mean it's a fact.
