Well, I was set on a Kubota M7040 cab until I went to the World Expo last week. I really have never looked at a Deere before, but the 5025 Series got my attention.

I currently have a Kubota B7800 and love it, so I am a big Kubota fan. I figure I have to keep my options open for this next purchase because it is a biggy for me.

I am not trying to create a war between Kubota and Deere, but I would like to know why you choose your Kubota over a Deere?

Also does anyone have any option regarding the Deere 5425 Series?

Thank you for your feedback.:D

Looked At the 5425 series. Liked the tractor. Priced both set up the way I wanted:
M7040 = 28,975
JD 5425 = 34,950

I need to look up the specs but I think a 5425 is more power than a 7040. The M8540 might be closer. Also, which transmission on the 5425? There are three different options from basic to a really nice powershift. Will make a difference in price. Just saying - compare apples to apples. The Mxx40 series are nice, but the JD 5x25 series can be really loaded with everything.

Kubota 7040 hp 68/62
Kubota 8540 hp 84/75
Deere 5325 hp 67/55
Deere 5425 hp 81/65
The 5325 may be closer to the 7040 however I wasn't interested in dropping below the 60 hp PTO. The Deere 5425 looked to be their tractor to suit my needs. I really liked it. But I had to consider price and settled on the Kubota with the 62 hp PTO.
The transmission I was pricing on the 5425 was a 9/3 SyncShuttle(standard).
I didn't mean so much to compare the two as apples to apples, just the two I was most interested in.

Sounds like you've done your research. Keep in mind that JD's often produce a bit more PTO hp than the JD rating when tested in the Nebraska test lab. Probably would not get the 5325 up to your 60 pto hp, but might be closer. Do you have a specific tool that requires 60 hp minimum?

JD Tractors are Nebraska tested and Kubotas are not! Kubota has bevel front axle and not as load handling as JD is what i'm told. in other words the further you move out (wide rims) away from hub the more leverage and weight you put on the front end (FWD) the weaker bevel is such as loader app.

I've not seen or heard of a kubota with a broken bevel drive casting. A stripped pinion once from logging use with chains on all four tires and the front diff lock engaged, and loader on the tractor.

Both bevel and planetary castings are designed to be strong enough. NH has some axles of the planetary design (like JD's) under their TL series, a local fellow has broken 3 of them in half just using the tractor for farm chores.

I chose my 7040 because I have owned three other Kubotas and they performed flawlessly. I also liked the fact that Kubota makes the engine. The price was cheaper. My dealer is awesome. I'm sure the JD is a good tractor but, I'm very happy with my Kubota.

I agree - I’ve abused my Kubotas and and they never spend one minute in the shop.

What I found with Kubota is you can buy it cheaper on the internet and never have to worry about not getting service - because you will never need service! :D

There is give and take too all designs. The reason they use a bevel gear is because the turning radius is much better. Its very noticable when your in the seat, it turns almost like a small compact.

The conversation reguarding Nebraka tests has happened about a dozen times now. The reason that Kubota does not Nebraska test their tractors is because they are done at a different international testing center that pretty well everyone else EXCEPT Nebraska accepts. I've also heard company chatter that Deere pumps a fair amount of money into that center and is able to get their machines tested more quickly and at a lower cost than other companies. The expense to get a machine tested was pretty remarkable, along the lines of $100,000+ per model. For a company like Kubota that changes models every 3-4 years its simply not worth the cost of entry to sell product in that state. Its got nothing to do with trying to hide poor performance of anything of the sort.
