M7040Cab or Deere 5025 Series

I am sure my comments will be taken out of context because I sell green tractors however, I sat in & drove several of the new M40 series late last year at Hay school and in my opinion, having years of experience in this field, there is no finer machine in the 50-100hp range than the Deere 5X25 series. The cab is secon to none, everything is super easy to maintian, Deere's have twice as long service interval times (servicing adds up). The Kubota's controls aren't laid out as nicely as the Deere's, and their shift gates feel terrible when compared to the Deere's. The Kubota's are a nice machine but the Deere is a nicer piece...and not everybody needs a "fancier" tractor...so get in and drive both and let that be the determining factor.

I will agree the brand new kubota's shift gates are tight now that they are remote mounted, I suspect the linkage gets better with time. The older m's with the shifter on the floor sure had a nice feel though.

I would third the comment on shift gates. I had a really tough time shifting between low and high ranges on the M7040 cab model I drove back in February. Almost couldn't get it to shift. Ordinary shifting (1-4 gears) was ok, but nothing wonderful.

While the M40 is Kubota's deluxe model, I almost don't think it's a fair comparison to the 5x25 models because those JD's have so many features and so much capability for their size. But then the 5x25 series are generally quite a bit more cash. The new JD 5603 is going to make things really interesting. IMHO - cab tractor for basic use, not full time, an M40 is a better deal; cab tractor for farm use 30-100 hours a week for most of the year, the JD 5x25 would be well worth it.

I don't have any problem shifting my M7040. Matter of fact I usually stay in one gear most of the time. But that said, I use mine for construction grading which does not require much shifting.

My 7040 was hard to shift between hi and lo. After the first 100 hours it is alot easier.

I have a M6800 and am seriously considering a 5325 as a replacement. There is nothing wrong with the Kubota. Matter of fact it is a fine tractor, but I am getting older and I want a cab. From what I've seen, JD has the best cab on the market. They do cost a bit more, but you are getting a little more in return.

I have to crunch some numbers and see if I can justify the cost to my wife though. That will be the tough sell.

I've owned nothing but Kubotas for 28 years. All of them have been great years, but that JD sure is sweet!

Just a note I can add after looking at prices here, bumping the deere to ehydro reverser and better tranny vs the sync 9/3 is a big jump in cost and living with the basic JD tranny is not something I'd be interested in doing with a loader.

I agree whole-heartedly with that.
