Decompression Valve?

I do it by feel. With both spark plugs removed get the cyl on compression stoke and put the 6" 1/4 " extension(or equivelent) in the spark plug hole and watch it come out as far as possible and stop there. Make a 1/4 inch further up the extension and turn it till you reach that mark set your valves and done.

This one is just a single cylinder. I'm sure the principle is the same, though.

So, I finally made the time and adjusted the valves.

Success!

The intake valve was really loose. I got it tightened down to .004 and the engine now spins freely with the starter motor. It starts every time without any problems.

I will bet the carb is draining fuel into the cylinder causing a hydraulic lock. check your oil level see if it is high and smell it to see if it smells like gas. mine doing same thing I put vise grips on gas line when i shut it off to stop the gas.Had the carb apart again today everything looks fine if I find a solution I will post it. When it starts if you whatch the exaust you will see a spry come out put a board in front of pipe and you will see what mean. If you can't get it started take plugs out turn over lots of times and install new plugs. dont have anything you like in front of exaust pipe when you start cause its messy.Oil changes are getting exspensive if i forget to shut off the gas. Thinking of installing shut off valve .

You'll also find it runs better now. It'll run at a higher rpm so it cuts better and belts last longer, and it will idle at a much lower speed without dying. Its a win all round.
