What are my options for adding weight to my 2310 2wd? What cost should I expect?

Another question is.......Is a landscape rake a landscape rake? In other words are they pretty much all the same? I mean with such a simple design I did not figure much differance from one to the other.

Also give me your thoughts on a finishing mower for this model. Size and Brand.

Thanks,
JC

Where would you like the weight ??? You could fill the tires at a very low cost.. Landscape rake/rock rake all about the same.. I don't own 1 but, from what I understand woods is a good brand finish mower. There are other brands that are good brands . woods just comes to mind. What I would lookmfor is thickness of mowing deck, good bearings with grease fittings etc, You should be able to run atleast a 5 footer. You should have around 23 PTO HP.

JC, I have a HOWSE brand 5ft landscape rake, they are pretty much all the same. However if you are needing to remove small rocks or really large rocks the landscape rake will not help much. The rake is very usefull fort mid size rocks, dirt clumps, leaves and sticks. It is also a good tool for covering seed and leveling small mounds as it will scratch the ground about an in or so. (depending on weight) I also suggest purchasing one with wheel guides.

Yea, the main reason I was thinking about the rake was to level loose ground with. I have a box blade but am having a hard time getting the hang of it. Yesterday I took the teeth out and it seemed to be a little easier to use for smoothing out and leveling. My cousin has been over to my property with his JD and used his landscape rake to level out loose spots. It seemed to work very well.....easier than the box anyway.

As far as where I need some weight......it's definitley in the front end. But actually it probably wouldn't hurt to have a little extra it all over. My rear tires spin very easy it seems. How much is the added weight going to affect performance and HP? Whats the right amount to add?

Thanks for all the suggestions.....

You will notice a difference in performance. The way I fill my tires is to bring the valve stem to the 12 oclock position , attach the adapter to the hose then to the valve stem & just fill. If you just plain water , you will have to watch out in the winter to keep your tires from freezing

for this part of your question, use "suitcase weights", John Deere has them for CUT's at 41 lbs each for about $40 US. They hang right on the front bumper, my YM1600 will hold 5 of them without any modification. Anywhere that services or sells John Deere Lawn Tractors should have are order them for you.

Right now I have 3 suitcase weights (123 lbs) on the front, they do help allot. I want 4 more for even heavier implements. The nice thing is they can be added / removed to balance weight for different implements or none.

For a landscape rake, if you use it for cleaning limbs, vines, and debris of the like, having the tines loose (allowed too wobble) does help keep entanglements of the debris in the tines from getting in a tight bind making for hard cleaning. This thread about a KingKutter landscape rake is what I did, and does help allot working debris. TSC Landscape-Rake Tine Auto-Magic Align Very little dismounting to clear debris from the rake tines, when I do need to clear the tines it is easy and things are not tightly entangled in the tines.

I added some weight to my fromt. Not suitcase weights as they were too much $ .I welded a 3/4 pipe on my front end & put on some bar- bell type weights. But , then took them off & just added water

OK...I got the adapter to fill my tires with water. I'm going to do it this afternoon. Do I let ALL the air out of the tires? Do I fill the tire completely with water? I'm going to put water in all four tires.

Fill with water. When the tire appears full, push the air bleed on the adapter to let the air out( if you are going to fill the tire completely with water) then, continue to fill with water. Letting the air out every now & then through the air bleed until the tire is full of water

On the box blade I have found that adjusting the top link is very inportant. shorten to cut or dig. Lenghten it so ity rides on the raar blade with the fromt blade off the ground to smooth. I would really like a budrolic top likk when box blading.
