Can I repair my alternator?

Hi Mickey fx!

I have some language problems since i am from Sweden. What do you mean with LT and GTs?
And by changing the reg and alt can I change it to one from a small car as long as the both units works together? Can I take a "normal" generator or do I have to find a alternator. As you have for sure allready noticed I am not in to this things. I dont know the difference between those. I know that they dont look the same but do they work at the same way. I have never seen a alt before. My Yanmar has shown me my very first.

When he says LT and GT I think he means lawn tractor and garden tractor. You should be able th use any generator/regulator or alternator/regulator combination that are matched to each other. The main difficulty is mounting them to your engine.

Hi you all!
Now I have found a regulator. I have understood that this is a common failure on these mashines. The alternator allmost never shut downs but the reg does. Now i am waiting for the postman so I can get the reg in my little red. I have to start on my strawberryfield this weekwnd so I can get rich by next summer!!!!

Nice to hear you found a regulator.

The comments that followed your post are correct. LT/GT = lawn or garden tractor. The engines I was erfering to are Brigs & Stratton, Kohler, etc. In operation the charging system on these engines operated just like the one on Yanmar tractors. The Yanmar reg has a couple more connections than a typ small engine, one for the low battery light and another I don't quite understand but the basic rectification of the AC and voltage control operation is the same.
