$1.00/ Pound for Scrap Steel :(

I just bought some 3/16 flat HR here in Nashville at Metals Supermart.

Worked out to $1.10 per pound. Granted that was cut to length but that's still outrageous.

Of course, it was STILL cheaper than buying a couple feet of the stuff at Lowes or Home Dept....

But usually I try to buy steel from the scrapyard....

I think you can go to metals supermarket in waterbury and buy the amount of steel you want, cut to length/size for about the same price.

Thanks, indeed I went to a scrap dealer in Waterbury, may be the one you noted. They offered me about 100 pounds of nice 2" square tubing, thick wall for $20 cash, so 20 cents a pound was a deal!

So I guess I just had to look around, doubt that deal will come again though.

Currently making a log holder and I need to weld up so tubing this weekend!

I'm also in Vt, and would like to know of a place where I could buy scrap steel for the prices some of you guys enjoy. If anyone in my neck of the woods knows of a place to pick up steel for a good price, please share. Thanks in advance

There is a place in Hagerstown, MD called "Maryland Metals". They buy scrap and sell new, drops and I believe scrap as well.

There is also a place in Frederick, MD that sells scrap, but I can't remember their name.
