Hey, We had some massive rain the other day and I left the cap off of my exhaust pipe. Normanly this would not be too big of a deal but I started it up and it spuddered over for 200 yards where i was going to put it and then sputtered out. Could not get it cranked again. This was 2 days ago, I am going out now to week if it can do something about it but was wondering what others have done in the past. I had a cheap flaper on it at one time but made too much noise. There are some nicer counter ballanced real tractor flapper at Tractor supply i could get. I did have a 90degree elbow on it at one time before i replaced the pistons but took it off due to too much smoke coming back on me.
Any way, comments sugestions are welcome.

Well, it's too late now but the first thing that you should have done was to remove the muffler and pull the compression release and crank it over for a while to get all the moisture out of the cylinders.

I would have though it would have blown the water out on start up . I guess if the exhaust valves were open the water went in. You should be able to drain it out through oil change. I keep a coke can over mine. Mine terminates a 45 deg. A flapper won't work unless I cut the 45deg. off.

I agree and do not think it is to late... that should allow all the water an easy escape path... also while the muffler is off, make sure it is completely drained of water. I would also try, after cranking with compression release pulled for abit, give it a little throttle and see if she will start then while muffler is off. My avatar shows why this should never happen to me.

Good Luck, sure hope she will fire right back up

Well just got it going. In reality there was not that much water that went down the pipe. In reality the fuel cap/gauge has had the clear cover off of it for awile and water had gotten in the fuel so much that it would not fire. The reason it fired the first time and died was there was still good fuel in the lines and after that too much water. I just emptyed the tank, 2gal maybe and cleared out the fuel filter and lines. I then put in some Redline diesel fuel additive that i just started to run in my TDI jetta and of couse some good diesel. ANy way after a few good starts it fired right up. I am running it right now to let everything heat up and charge the batter and such.
I was affraid of the water in the exhaust as on the YM2000 I am working on had a bunch of water when i stared it up the other day and it blew water 15 ft and fired up with no problem. Strange and very hardy these little beast are.
I sill might get a flapper but for now the can will work. I will have to order a new fuel cap but i can cover that up also till i get one.
