Rotary Cutter Picked up a new Rotary Cutter yesterday

My old Howse brand rotary cutter wasn't cutting it any longer. It was old and although it's drivetrain and the tailwheel worked like a champ, the housing had rusted through to the point that it was sagging in the middle. Ofte times the blades would hit the housing. I had enough of that and decided to pull the trigger on a new one.

Picked up a Rhino 160 for my Kubota L3130. I've never had a better cutting machine!

Nice! love the round ends, less likely to catch things on turns.
I gave my brush hog a workout today, it's a Montana 4'. In someways i wish I had gotten bigger, but I have no complaints. I was driving over brush that I would have called trees a month ago. Lots of noise, but no obvious damage to the unit and I earned 250.00. A few more trips like that and the hog will have paid for itself. Gave the wife 50$ and told her, "This is what the tractor can do, If I have the time and accessories to support it"
Bribery, it can pay.

I've got an old Howse which has the same "saggin'" problem and makes an awful racket--so much so that my comptroller has even mentioned replacing it!!!! I too have contemplated a new Rhino. If you're willin' what was the price range on that cutter? If I don't go with a 160, I may graduate to a Rhino 172.

I bought the unit from my local JD dealer. Kubota only sold Kubota and Landprides (both of which are fine units), but I wanted the Rhino after looking at all 3. Rhino is contoured/rounded on the top so water won't collect on it. It washes off easily, requires no hand removal of debris/seed/stalks, etc. Just washes right off, because there's nowhere for it to get hung up. That'll keep it from rusting out for many, many years.

Anyhow, as for the price, I was told by the salesman that I saved a couple hundred bucks because it was a holdover on the lot from their last major purchase and it doesn't reflect the higher metal charges. I don't know rather to believe it or not, but it doesn't matter anyhow. I would have paid more for it easily. Sticker price was $1198.00. I got it out the door for $1236.00 and it has the slip clutch, but without chains on the front and rear. I was told they would cost me 125.00 more if I wanted them to install those. I didn't need chains, the hard rubber looks to be made of the same stuff tires are made from, chords and all. Honestly, I've never had a finer cut. Adjustments are simple and it's extremely well built.

I wasn't happy with the color either. Rhino makes this unit in an off-orange color, but they didn't have any. Only the 172's (6footers) on their lot were orange.

If you ask me the rhino is the nicest of all the units. Heck, someday I may own one.

Podunk, in my extensive research, I've noticed that the business side of all colors of cutters is the same. It doesn't matter what color it is on top. Congratulations! That looks like a sweet cutter.

Save that old mower.. sounds like it just needs a new deck plate where the gearbox mounts... you got plenty of spares now.
