3520 too heavy to finish mow?

I'm saying I don't think the tractor is too heavy since I see no turf damage even with R1s unless a) I'm in MFWD, b) take a sharp turn too quickly, or c) the ground is soft enough I'm glad I have Ags.

I chose Ags because I was concerned about getting stuck and have since learned you get stuck anyway, only more thoroughly :p

With the Turf specials i run, i can mow with MFWD engaged on some of the slopes and it does not tear ruts into the grass, even when it is a bit wet. I do not normally mow when it is wet, but I this weekend, the soil was damper than i thought but I did not tear up the turf. i will go back to mowing when it is dry as I want to avoid ending up in a 3500 pound sled all of a sudden:eek: on my slopes.

. 1*Oh, and do note that the height of the ROPS makes it impossible to go around low-hanging branches.

2*after buying the 3320 we went to Home Depot and got the smallest cheapest hydro JD cutter they sell.
3*My wife uses that for trim .
1*My rops goes under branches .
I trimed off the ones that hit the ROPS.
2*Why didn't you buy it from a JD dealer /like where you bought the 3320?
3*I use a BX1500 for that.

I am also in the PNW. I see tracks from my filled R-4s on the 3720, especially when the grass is wet. But they go away. I see the tracks from my LX280 with turf tires too. I have the mulching deck on the 280 and it works great, even when the grass is wet.

Reading what you want to do. I would get the big R-4s and get them filled (all of them). Then I would get a lawn tractor for finish mowing. It is so worth it! Get a dump wagon to tow behind your lawn tractor and your wife/SO/kids can use that for landscaping/gardening.

Not having to hook up the mower every time you want to mow, priceless ;)

Getting someone else to mow, because it is fun with the lawn tractor, priceless.

Sneaking up behind them with the tractor while they are mowing, priceless + 1.

Well I mowed today for the first time with a 3320 pulling a Woods PRD7200. The tractor has the 300cx loader on it as well as RimGuard filled R4's. Adding that all up its around 4k lb's and it did well and wasn't leaving marks in the grass, though I did have high lift blades.

I have a 3320 with 300CX and less agressive 4PR R4s (not filled). I have mowed my entire 4-5 acre lawn with a LandPride FDR2572 Rear Discharge RFM for the past 3 years.

I think there has definitely been some compaction issues due to the weight of the tractor. The lawn is so compacted that a commercial grade spike aerator has a difficult time penetrating without bending several spikes.

It digs up the lawn a little when I make a tight turn or when I turn on an incline. Not a big deal.

Overall the floatation in wet areas is surprising given the weight; obviously the rear does much better than the front. That's one nice part about a RFM. I can back into swampy areas and mow up to the edge of my bog; my rear tires stay on top and my front tires only sink a little. I could probably do much better if I removed the FEL and added a few weights to the front.

I would definitely recommend switching to high lift blades as some others have mentioned. I started with standard lift and switched to high lift. I definitely notice a difference.

My neighbor has a sub-compact Kubota with a side discharge MMM and it definitely makes for a better cut.

Smaller mowers will definitely give you a better cut but they are not nearly as fun. Next season I plan to purchase a small JD lawn tractor with bagger to mow the first acre around the house. I will still use the 3320 to mow the rest.

Your probably running closer to 5000#. The tractor is close to 3K the loader frame is 1100#'s alone without the bucket, and the large R4's take 900lbs of Rimguard (Not sure what the smaller ones take). It all adds up.

My 3720 (Cab) runs pretty close to 6000# when I mow and that's without the bucket. I run R3's though. They actually flatten the grass more than the R4's but don't compress as much. I only leave tracks with the MMM (which I don't use any more). Using the RFM pulls the grass back up when it cuts.

Either way, it cuts the grass and doesn't kill the lawn and that's all that matters.
