Pretty fair assessment.. not all encompassing.. but pretty fair. I think I meant to add in a to that comment to keep it friendly..but left it out somehow ... I see I at least remembered to put on in in the reply 2 posts later at least.

Moss, it took a while but it may have been figured it out. Being in Soundguys "Peanut Gallery" must mean one is just a ordinary normal type of person with a normal perspective on life!

I have several fordsons of similar age both gas and diesel and side by side the diesels have more power and i shudder when i think how bad on fuel the old gas combines were before switching to diesel of same size..?
And i agree that the gas is a pain in the *** to keep running ,Diesel is far easier ...?

Are the engines you are refering to actually specified as the same hp? If not.. the direct comparison isn't as meaningfull.. etc.?

I'm sure that the diesel major is about 5 hp more than the petrol although the difference just as well be 20hp . The MF 35's were the same where's that nice 3cyl diesel we had in the british ones.
What's with this gas fantasy ...Spluttering and popping/No torque ...Becoming obselete for parts ....?

This doesn't maybe apply to op in Houston, but I find the best feature of a diesel is the compression ****** going down steep hills in my woods. With fwa, you can stay safe without relying on the brakes even with a heavy trailer pushing you. In my cold climate, my diesels have needed block heaters but run very good after startup. Never had a new one, so ymmv.
