Just purchased a BX1500. Looked into a shop manual but the purchase price of $70 seems quite high. Is that price consistent across the country or are these manuals available outside of Kubota Corporation? Recommendations on diesel fuel additives for winter? Do you guys follow the manufacturers maintenance schedule or would you advise based on experience earlier intervals? Is there a break in engine period? Thank you.

It's already broke in isn't ?
The last BX1500s were built 3 years ago in 2005.

The BX1500s are great little tractors .
I love both of mine.

**I dump a quart of power service in each 55 gallon of fuel .

Thank you gentlemen. How about scheduled service? Stay on as the manual says or would you perform various tasks sooner? The machine I believe is a leftover and was probably around the shop for three years. It has less than 20 hours. Is there a break in period?

---You
**** need
~~~~~~the manual
be for you screw up or over look something.
Tha break in and all this other stuff is covered in it.
Just follow and stick with what it says.
The manual and warranty go with the tractor.
Congrats on your new tractor. Even though it has less than 20 hours on it I would do the 50 hour service on it being at least 3 yrs old. Engine oil and Hydraulic fluid breaks down over time and there may be moisture building up in stuff. Then stick to the book for the maint.
And yes. Get a manual. It'll give you information that will help you keep your tractor in top shape for many years to come.
I have the standard BX1500 manual that comes with the tractor. What I was interested in was the shop manual which happens to retail for $70.00.
I have read through many threads on rear work lights and I think the 1500 is limited to one light without modification. Does anyone have the part number to the Kubota rear work light that comes complete and ready to go out of the box?
I have also purchased a 5' Kodiak back blade to work with the loader for snow removal. Anyone put skid shoes on their loaders to keep from wearing down the bucket edge? Probably a topic discussed frequently. I will do a search.
Thanks again.
1*I work a blade and loader combo that's a bit different than your set up.
My loader is on the BX23 not the BX1500.
Mine is a 60'' Hydraulic lift and angle front blade on the used BX1500.
My loader and blade aren't on the same tractor.
2*I wouldn't want skid shoes on my loader bucket; although I do have them on my front blade.
If I remember right this one had 1.8 hours on it when it was delivered to me last Nov.
It was a new left over.
The owners manual tells you how to break it in during the first 50 hours.
Also the first 50 hour service is very important and that to is all explained in the manual.
The machine I believe is a leftover and was probably around the shop for three years. It has less than 20 hours.
Mine was a new left over and came with full factory warranty.
It had 1.8hours on it i think.
1*I'm not sure that would be a good idea.
The Way i understand it the dealer is the one who assembles the tractor and fills it with the fluids.
This may have been done when you purchased the tractor or shortly before in which case the fluids certainly would not be old.
Another point __-->I've been told Kubota uses a special break in engine oil That needs to be run in the motor for the full 50 hour break in period.
Replcing with the ordinary oil it at only 20 hours could conceivebly lead to engine failure and voiding the warrenty.
2* Yes get the manual talk to the dealer and fully understand your tractor before you use it or do anything to it.
I have read through many threads on rear work lights and I think the 1500 is limited to one light without modification.
Not correct.
Do a search on me as I have posted many times about adding lights to a BX and tractors in general.
This is interesting. Could any dealer comment on if there's truth to "special break-in oil"?
This is one reason the OP needs to talk to his dealer and needs to know what he's doing before doing anything to or on his tractor and before using the tractor.
I'm not a dealer, nor do I play one on t.v. however there is a such thing as break-in oil. Whether Kubota puts it in their engines or not I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if they do. If it was my tractor I would change it anyway. Use a little BG RF-7 and go play:).
/ New BX Owner #18
What's this??
BG RF-7 is a product added to oil. It is made by BG (the makers of 44k). It is very thick and contains ingredients that make it useable not only in vehicles with high mileage but also great for engine break in. Royal Purple also makes engine break in oil. Many who build engines use STP as a pre-lube and add conventional motor oil during their break in. RF-7 has the consistency of STP.
Thanks for the Info.
I would still talk to the dealer before I did anything.
My BX 1500 had 1.8 hours when I got it back in Nov. Since the dealer had set it up and serviced it I left it as delivered then did the 50 hour service at 50 hours.
Every thing was fine.
I checked with kessicks.com and got a better price than I was quoted elsewhere. I'm not much of a mechanic but the shop manual can answer a lot of questions.
If you call them ask about a parts manual as well and why you might need that as well.
