Unless GM and Chrysler merge...:D

Dodge trucks may not survive that merger...

I think GM's smart enough to preserve the Dodge brand. They'd be stupid to reduce brand variety and the appeal Dodge trucks have to their customer base.

I finally saw a Sterling Bullet the other day on the road. Only the grille gave it away as being a rebadged Dodge. Otherwise it looked like any other Ram I've seen.

It's too bad the link to the story Builder provided didn't work as I would have like to have read it.

Remember, Brockway trucks before their demise were rebadged Mack's.

So if GM & Chrysler merge, would that mean Cummins engines would show up in Chevies & GMC's, and Allison trannies in Dodges? Somehow I think a GM/Chrysler merger would be far more awkward for the two companies than the Daimler/Chrysler merger was. If they do merge, will Pontiac and Buick brands disappear? Or maybe Buick's will only be sold in China because as I understand it, the Chinese covet Buick's.

The link still works for me.

I would think that GM would pretty much allow all the Dodge brands survive. They'd probably use allison transmissions in them, but the Cummins would survive in the Dodge. Too many loyal customers at stake.

Yeah Dodge parts will work, they were just an expensive dodge cab chassis, those unique body/trim parts may be a problem to get in the future though and who services them?

Dodge doesn't need Allison anymore they have Asin!

Builder, you make it sound like GM would be taking over dodge, I heard on the news that it was the other way, that Chrysler was thinking about acquiring GM?

I can't imagine Chrysler buying one of the largest companies in the world (GM), they just got back on their feet a few years ago, I think we will lose many name plates in this latest turmoil, IMO we don't need that many anyway.

JB,

I thought the deal was GM takes over Chrysler and the investors that own Chrysler take over ownership of GMAC financing?

To be honest I haven't followed the storey to closely, just heard a news snippet one day on the radio.

I think if it was those private investors that bought up Chrysler, they would parse up GM pretty bad.

Yes. And, believe it or not, there has even been talks between GM and Ford!

Next we'll have dogs and cats living together, Democrats and Republicans agreeing on issues and Barney Frank dating Jennifer Aniston!

On a serious note, watch Cerberus and Kirk Kirkorian in the near future with their associations with domestic automakers. There have been a lot of closed door meetings with them and each of the domestic manufacturers. Not that I had enough stock to amount to squat, a couple of months ago Kirkorian bought all of my Ford stock. Now I'm really glad I sold based on what automaker's stocks have done in the last month.

Hey, better watch out giving out all that private financial information.....we might start calling you things like "multi-millionaire" or "rich-boy" :D

The talks between GM & Ford were back about 5 years ago.

I wonder if GM ever consumated its' deal to subcontract its' remaining medium/heavy truck manufacturing to IH ?

Hummer is on the selling block, too.

The times are a-changing!

I was out of the country on a business trip last week and learned that there are current talks between Ford and GM. One never knows how serious or to what extent these talks encompass though.

LOL, let's just say that KK bought all of my Ford stock with the interest income he earned in about 1/10 of a second. :D Now I just wonder if I shouldn't buy more back since F can be had for just over $2 a share. Heck, last time I checked, my GM stock was down to about $6 a share or so. Taking inflation into account, I think that is about as low as it's been since...well, about since 1929.

Why would they put a Cummins when they have an equally better engine in the Duramax? That pipe dream will never happen.

When/if GM takes over ChryCO, I am sure they Ram line will remain the same, brand loyalty is $$$$$$!!

After the possible GM/Chrysler merger was mentioned on the news, the media mentioned that Ford and GM discussed a merger or alliance this past summer; but Ford told GM to go away.

I still keep hearing that Cerberus is in talks with Nissan/Renault to hook up with Chrysler. That to me makes more sense. So would a N/R/C hookup result in a rebadged Dodge Ram being called a Nissan Titan?

It wouldn't be the first time such a things has happened, nor will it be the last. Remember, Honda's first foray into SUV's was selling Isuzu Rodeo's as Honda Passport's. I could never figure out why Honda hooked up with Isuzu as there are better manufacturers out there than Isuzu. But after the Passport was mercifully killed off, Honda designed and engineered its own SUV's.
