Totally confused--12K trailer Class A license

The trailer needs an original manufacturing placard for registrtion. . THere is a term for this, slips the mind for now. I bought the trailer stickered for 9990. They sell a bunch of them. The manufactur said they ship a bunch to Nebraska. Must have the same deal. Now I can liscense the thing for anything I want. I Actually lisc it for 9000.


What I hate is that there is so much interputtion to the law.

I will add my experience:

Logic might tell you that it should be what things actually weigh vs what they are rated to carry. In this case from my experience that logic would be wrong. I work for a fortune 50 corporation and I have to deal with these issues a lot as things get moved across state lines. In all the cases I have dealt with, the issue has been "plated capacity" and not actual loads. I can only guess this is because people haul things in enclosed trailers and this is easier for the DOT police to deal with than "guessing how much things weigh"

I cannot think of a downside to registering the trailer in the 9000lb range rather than the full factory capacity (other than if you will haul over the lower rated plate). Nothing in the law says that you cannot make something beefier than it needs to be. Make it simply and you will avoid the headaches of all of this stuff
