Spreading lime

$26 per ton here in Arkansas.

Our NRCS office recommends running an aerator over the land before spreading the lime to help ensure it getting into the soil. You have to run the aerator slowly to keep from pulling rocks out but it does help.

Scott, around here pelletized lime is close to $100/ton where as pulverized lime is around $30/ton so pelleted lime doesn't get used very often.

I would not advise putting lime on without a soil test. Lime can have adverse affects if you put too much on. In a vineyard you should never put more then 2 ton per acre on in a year. You most likely will be fine but the soil test is a wise investment so you know exactly what your ground needs for your use.

I took samples for a soil test a week before they came out. Soil tests are free if you go through your local extension office. I don't have the results back yet. This ground I know has not been treated in 10 yrs. I'm sure that it has never been treated.

Last I checked it was around $40/ton for ag lime spread and around $160/ton pel. lime. On average you should only put around 2 ton of ag lime down when spreading it. Any more it takes so long to break down it is really not effective. This has been my job for the last 3 years spreading lime for farmers. You should take soil samples at least every other year. Ag lime will last around 3 years before having to reapply if actively using the ground. Pellitized lime has to be applied every year because very little actually stays year after year. It is a fast acting lime that raise PH quick but doesnt last long.

You do not have any other applicators in your area? I know of two companies that will deliver or spread lime on site and my friend loans his spreaders if you buy the lime thru him. This is only in the 20 miles I drive frequently. I am sure there are others the other direction that I do not know about yet.
