CJ4 oil

I'm giving this a "bump" to see if we can get an answer on the CJ-4 spec oil.
The conflicting "Oil Specifications" by Kubota is darn confusing. I'm about to do an oil chnage on my L3940 and would like to use Rotella with the CJ-4 rating....as long as that is ok in my engine (I use ULSD fuel).

I sent an E-Mail to Kubota the other day and asked about using CJ-4 in my new M5040 with High-Sulfur Off-Road fuel and Kubota wrote back and said they do NOT reccomend using CJ-4 in the M5040.

No reason why.......and although they answered my question, they sure were brief, with no explanation as to why they do not reccomend CJ-4 in my M5040?

I did not ask about using CJ-4 with Low-Sulfur, or ULSD.....and not sure if that would have made any difference?

I'm not sure if Kubota prohibits using CJ-4 in ALL of there tractors, or if it is model/engine specific, or if it is related to the type of diesel fuel being used?

I would go to Kubota's website, and using the contact part, technical section, ask them specifically about your model tractor, and tell them what type of fuel you are using........ let us know what they say.

Please help me out in interpreting this - Your link says "All Applications....CF4".
The other alternatives say "May be used" - - They dont say recommended or "use only x x or better." To me that means CF4 is the best choice.

Based on dieselpowers link they recommend CF4 for all applications?

Just for reference the link that I had posted was found from the Kubota home page.

Got a call back from the Asistant Service Manager for the Southeast Region (his name is Dennis).
He did not know why we can not use CJ-4 spec oil in our machines, but promised to find an answer. He agreed it did not make sense when most all oil is now CJ-4.
Also, the link on their "Support / Service / Maintenance Schedule" site is like the one in Foothill Ranchers' post. DieselPower, we could not figure out why your linked page came up differently other then it must have been an old page. Dennis confirmed that the current page on the Kubota web site is the one from Foothill's link.
So, the saga continues.
Dennis will call me back in a couple of days with the answer.
Stay tuned....

I also emailed Kubota and asked about the CJ4, just recieved an email that states "somtimes the owner manuel is superseded by information on the web site. Since you did not provide the serial number of your tractor, I can not be more specific but typically the latest API values are used which would be CJ4 at this time. This oil is approved for use in the L4400 tractor."
I asked specifically about my tractor but it still sounds like it's not approved for all or they won't make a broad statement saying it's ok.

I was browsing Kubota's web site and went into their maintenance table section, it stated that Kubota's with internal and external EGR can't use CJ4 oil, mines a 2007 model, don't know if it has an EGR. I thought all oils were CJ4 rated now, and they would work in anything.
Anyone heard of this with the Kubota's?

I finally have the answer :D:D:D:D:D:D
Spoke with an engineer at Kubota today. The "Unofficial" word is that you CAN use API CJ-4 spec oil in an EGR and non-EGR engine as long as you use ONLY: LSD, ULSD, or maximum 5% Biodeisel mix.
The problem comes from people who use fuel oil in their tractors. Fuel oil and CJ-4 spec oil don't work well together and Kubota has had problems with the injector pumps.
I asked why they just don't state this on their web page and he said they're working on the change.....but it takes an act of Congress to change almost anything at Kubota.
So, feel free to use the new CJ-4 spec oils in any Kubota engine as long as you are burning LSD, ULSD or maximum 5% Biodeisel mix.
Hope this helps.
