CJ4 oil

My 2008 Kubota owner's manual also specifcially states that "CJ-4 oil cannot be used in this tractor". This is a new MX5100 and looks like the rest of the wording makes me believe that I cannont use CJ-4 for non-EGR or internal-EGR, only for external-EGR.

I noticed Foothill's link references engine models D902-E2 and D902-E3. DieselPower's link doesn't list a model number.
My Grasshopper mower happens to use the same D902 engine, and I picked up some oil at my CaseIH dealer for it. I'm using the same 10w30 in my CIH tractor and the GH (Kubota Engine) mower. The Case oil is rated as CH-4, so it fits both recommendations by chance. If someone is looking for CH-4 oil, check your CaseIH dealer.

For the life of me I can't imagine why they would say to not use CJ-4. Its designed for today's modern EGR engines which tend to be harder on the oil.
Please help me out in interpreting this - Your link says "All Applications....CF4".
The other alternatives say "May be used" - - They dont say recommended or "use only x x or better. To me that means CF4 is the best choice.

Maybe one of the Kubota dealers on here can clear this up, after all they sell and service the Kubotas.

I hope one of them will respond and clear this up.

With my new M5040, and Model V3007-DI engine the Operators Manual states that because I use Off-Road "High-Sulfur" fuel I can only use CF oil and that because I use CF oil it must be changed at shorter intervals.....that "shorter intervals" is pretty vauge....

There is no mention in my Operators Manual about whether or not I can use CJ4 oil.

When the service tech at the dealership was giving me the walk thru of the tractor prior to delivery he said that I could use Rotella.... not sure if he is correct or not.

I sent an e-mail to Shell and asked which version of Rotella I should be using with "High-Sulfur" off-road diesel and this is what I got back.

"In 2007 off-highway red dyed diesel sulfur content was reduced from >500 ppm (parts per million) to 300-500 ppm. Because the sulfur content is now lower, you can use either the CI-4+ or CJ-4 Rotella T 15W-40. API CD,CE or CF are old obsolete specifications. The CJ-4 version shows a 50% reduction in wear."

It seems from Shell's point of view that I can use CJ-4...... but nothing from Kubota.

Sure would be nice to know from Kubota if I could use CJ4 oil, while using High-Sulfur Off-road fuel.

Does Shell still make a CI4 oil, the only one I can find is CJ4, maybe due to the fact that I'm in Calif and I don't think theres anything other than ULSD out here which is maybe why I can't find CI4 oil.
But again I question is Kubota the only one using these standards, why not MF,NH,JD?

I emailed Shell, they think that the CJ4+ is still available but only in the barrel, a little to much for me.:D

CI-4 is still available in smaller containers from some lubricants manufacturers.
