A local man was killed when the skid steer he was operating on a farm hit something while moving and the operator was thrown forward, out of the operator's seat and out in front of the unit, where he was pinned by the machine.

Sounds like he was not belted in, but details from the story are very few.

Anyhow, be careful, folks. :(

Hit a big rock once when i was pushing snow with the trator. My whole workd stopped there for a second. if it wasn't for the streeing wheel I would have went over the hood. It even broke the seat.

Happened to me while clearing manure on the horse ranch. I was clearing down an alley between turn out pens, which I'd done many times before. This time however, I snagged an old metal post that had been cut off below ground level by a previous owner. The skidsteers back end came up off the ground, the engine stalled and I stayed with it thanks to the belt and bar. First thing I did was look around to see if anyone was looking. Nobody saw, which means nobody would have seen had I been thrown.

**** lucky that day!

Tragic, It can happen in a split second. It may have been an older machine without a lap bar. Sounds like he wasnt buckled in.

Think of how many times (every time) we should buckle up, and don't...I'm just as guilty as the next guy.

Always wear your seatbelt! You are just kidding yourself if you think a rollover can't happen to you. Under the wrong circumstances you can turn over in your level driveway.

Sincerely, Dirt

I learnt my lesson about a seatbealt quite a few years ago, I was stripping some topsoil from a lot with a dozer when I hit a stump that had been filled around. It stopped the dozer and trew me forward luckily not off the machine but for a couple of days I was thinking it was a good job my wife and I were not planning any more kids. Ever since I were the belt.
have fun but play safe Gary

Dirt, I know this is an older thread..but..

Do you know the story behind this picture? Looks to be about the size unit I been looking at.

Tim, do a search for the thread '' I spilled my coffee'' That will give you the story what happened. If you have any specific questions about Cat MTL's, I've owned a couple and would be glad to help you out.

Sincerely, Dirt

You're lucky you didn't get hurt worse than you did. Glad it was a minor repair to the SS and you got away with just a bruise.:)
