I have turf tires and I was wondering how they work in the snow and ice. What I know about car and truck tires, I could see where they might work better than ag or industrial tires, because they have quite a few sipes in them. I can see where the ags or industrials tires would work better than turf tires in the mud and such, but wasn't sure about the snow.

turfs work fine for me in the snow ...I have a very long, very steep driveway and when we get an ice storm chains are the answers ...on all 4 wheels (w. 4wd). Nice thing about turfs is they handle chains better than the alternatives...chains stay on top of the tread, don't fall in.

Please do a search on here about this. There are many many threads on here about turfs vs. ag. industrial in the snow and mud. They all usually end with arguing and you are wrong I am right, mines better than yours.:D:D

Chains are very hard on the paved drive and the sealcoating. I'm hoping I will be fine this year without them. Bar/turf tires, rear ballast, and 4WD will hopefully do the trick. In my experience chains aren't so great on ice either.

I have a 1-1/2 mile long private drive in Maine and use ag tires without chains. I used sand when we had ice. I have a 68" meteor pull type snowblower and love it.

I use industrial and find them to be a good all round solution. I have a long gravel drive and they have sufficeint traction to remove blow snow up to two feet deep. If I get off the drive into deep snow the problems start, but I expect this would be similar in not worse with turfs.

I have R4's on my Massey and it is snowing outside, so I will tell you tomorrow how they work if the snow continues.

I have R4's and run a front snow blower...just curious has anyone ever tried chains on the front tires ONLY?
