I have R4's and they work fine for my primary needs-skidding logs and trail maintenance but I added front and rear chains for winter snow clearing
I have R4's and run a front snow blower...just curious has anyone ever tried chains on the front tires ONLY?
I use industrial and find them to be a good all round solution. I have a long gravel drive and they have sufficeint traction to remove blow snow up to two feet deep. If I get off the drive into deep snow the problems start, but I expect this would be similar in not worse with turfs.
I have a Kubota L48 TLB and use the standard R4 tires,, Driveway is uphill at 1600 ft,, Unless there can be ice,,( happens frequently here when it snows changes to rain then back to snow)..Then at times the R4's slip and I have to go at a different angle,
Anyway to answer your question. on the highway dpt I worked and all highway dpt and large commercial snow removal companies, we all run/ran St Pierre roller chains on the fronts only,.., You have tremendous pulling power (in 4wh FWD) No one here has ever chained rear wheels on any tractor at least that I am aware of,.
