Well it turns out a retaining ring broke allowing the internal hub to engage the assembly on it's own. No torch required for disassembly, although I did damage the crank-end bolt trying to break it loose. Evidently it is a common problem as a new bolt is included with the clutch mechanism. New unit is installed and will be ready to go tomorrow - good thing as the new grass needs cutting again.
How can the grass need mowed in The middle of Nov.
Too cold for it to grow here.

Not uncommon to mow in November around here. Just not as often. We've had a couple warm spells. Some azaleas were blooming and daffodils were popping up too.

For about 17 years, I took vacation the week of Thanksgiving and we went to Port Aransas (the Texas coast) the Saturday before Thanksgiving. And I always mowed for the last time of the season the Saturday before that; i.e., just about now.:)

Annual Rye, mowing beats a muddy front yard. I have a minimal yard in the middle of hardwoods - very difficult to keep any grass during dry summers. Then the fescue weans out this time of year, so it's rye or bare. Threatened to go all natural landscape, but that's more labor intensive than mowing.
