Talked to Perkins today and they said that they do not recommend any synthetics.

That's because they are in the business of selling engines:p...did they give a reason why?

What kind of Perkins engine do you have. Reason I ask is I cannot get my A3.152 started and have tried almost everything. Have posted the whole story in the Massey Ferguson section.

I have the Perkins 804C-33T (80.5 hp). UPDATE: The Perkins rep got back to me and, after discussing the matter with his associates, said Perkin's does recommend it as long as you stay with the same intervals and viscosity.

No, there is no reason not to use a synthetic. Your tractor is not going to go into self destruct mode because your using a better oil than called for. :) If I had to guess Perkins probably doesn't offer a synthetic oil and therefore dosen't recommend it. Kind of like Harley Davidson. At one point they said not to use synthetic oils. Amazingly when they started to sell their own HD branded synthetic oil they started to recommend it.

And, even more amazing is the incredibly high prices they charge for it, and the same guys who'd never use it before now buy it.

My brother paid the local H-D guy $180.00 (!!!!!!!!) for an oil change in his FatBob (or whatever it's called).

And he thought HD stood for Harley Davidson. Silly him, it stands for High Dollar. Probably two of the most expensive letters around. :D

I thought it was a form or greeting bikers used between each other!

You know, "Hello Doctor!"
