john deere 4200 HYDRO drive pedals

I have a JD 4200 and the forward and reverse pedals stick. You can push down on them and take your foot off and they will stay down. Only way to stop the tractor is push the other pedal. My foot is big enough that I have just been covering both pedals but
*my neighbor almost crashed my tractor into my Jeep so I think it is time to fix it.

I have put grease on the parts that come up through the floor board but that didn't help. Is there some other simple thing that I should look for that would fix this problem?

Thanks
*Another good reason why I prefer the treadle pedal over the 2 pedal set up

check out #23 on the diagram. is that a hydraulic cylinder (think tailgate lift cylinder on an suv) like is on the 41xx series? i know mine sticks sometimes when it is cold because that little cylinder is cold. once the trans warms up all is well. it seems to be getting worse with age. if you have this cylinder i wonder if it might have leaked and de-pressurized?

I just checked my shop manual for the 4200 - 4400 series, and the part Rocco refers to is listed as a shaft, nothing more. A couple of these shafts are spring wound, and the shop manual text lists one as the neutral return rod. It's on the right side of the tractor, and I'd guess that may be the culprit.

I just looked at John Deere's parts lookup online and that item #23 is listed as "23 AM127753 TORSIONAL DAMPER" on the parts list. I think there are actually two different diagrams for a change in the 4200/4300 based on serial number. Perhaps your shop manual is the other diagram.

There was no serial number cutoff for the part, so I suspect it's just a matter of what the shop manual tech writers called it based on the engineering drawings, and what the parts writers decided to call it.

I have the exact same prob with my 4400 pedals, I spent hours lubing them and physically moving them in and out and they still stick, really dangerous when using it on the road!
