The price of diesel down and I'm getting tired of going to town to fill 3-4, 5 gallon cans at a time and since my cans aren't yellow I always have to worry about someone putting diesel in the four wheeler or gas in the tractors. I'm sure a lot of you have been there on some of these things. If I can store fuel in one of these I may also apply for a permit to buy off road diesel and stop paying taxes on the tractor fuel. My questions are:

Does anyone store diesel in 55 gal poly drums like the blue ones I see around? If I find a veggie oil one it would be compatable with diesel fuel.

If store in a garage, would that slow down condensation in the drum? I've never noticed any condensation in my 5 gal cans stored inside but they may not sit as long.

I see a air powered pump a HFT for 50.00. Anyone used one of those?

Thanks for your responces.

I keep my diesel in a plastic drum (black) that my distributor gave me. I've never had problems with condensation, but I have a 12v Fill-Rite pump with a goldenrod water separator and filter in the line. The 12v pump makes it easy to just drive up to the shed and hook up to the tractor and fill up. I also buy off-road diesel. When I need fuel, I take the drum down to the distributor and get it filled then use the front end loader to offload at home.:)

I have been keeping mine in plastic for three years. No problems. I have a hand pump on it--no filters etc.

Here is my set up.

As you can see I use 3 of the plastic drums for it.
The first is a 30 gallon I use as the main tank.
The second one is a 55 gallon i use for a reserve tank.
The third one is a spare 55 gallon that I use for going and getting fuel if i need to but I haven't used it as I get home delivery and have the second drum filled only when it is empty.
There is no extra delivery charge or min delivery amount if you work it right.

1*I take the drum down to the distributor and get it filled.
2*then I use the front end loader to offload at home.:)
1*The delivery guy fills the second drum with the red off road fuel.
I get 55 gallon at a time.
There is no min delivery amount or delivery charge this way so i don't fool with taking the drum to him.

2*The Third drum is a 55 drum I would take to get fuel in if i was going to pick up fuel.
I don't use the tractor to off load it once I get it home.
I simply insert the end of the hose that's looped around the green hose hanger into the drum while it's still setting in the bed of the truck and use the red diesel fuel pump to pump the drum enpty into the second drum in the picture.
Next I simply set the now empty light drum off the truck back into the building where you see it setting now there in the corner.
