One trick that my dad tought me when I was young was to ask the salesman questions that you know the answer to. If you get the correct replies, odds are good that you'll also get the truth when asking a question about something you don't know the answer to.

One "trick" I learned as a saleman many years ago is when a customer said that they have to go home and think about it---they really have to go home and ask HER permission!:)

For all the good salesmen (and saleswomen) out there, please forgive me. But I've found over time, particularly when dealing with machines like these, salesmen just don't bother to take the time to learn the product.

I wonder how much of this has to do with as of a year ago and back, people would come, ask if zero percent financing, if answer was yes, they'd sign on the dotted line without doing a whole lot of homework themselves, therefore, the salesman was nothing more than a rubber stamp. Probably the same deal for mortgage salesmen and the like.

Another problem I find with sales is turn over, I rarely see the same face twice. Which would lead one to question the compensation model and other practices that are lacking in order to retain good help.

Funny, but real estate brokers are going the way of the travel agent, people are finding out that there is a not a whole lot to it, search the web, find a house, get it inspected, hire a lawyer for a few hundred bucks to take care of the legal stuff and you are done.

I for one definately feel as though there is more opportunity now than ever for good salespeople who are expert in their field.

I go to my tire guy because I trust him, he's a good salesman, he knows his product, his pricing is consistent (althought not the lowest) and his service is excellent. Just last Thursday I sent a coworker to him for a complete set of tires, no brainer, I knew he'd treat her professionally, not take advantage of her and they both would win.

The problem today is, with all the information out there, a crappy salesperson is real easy to see.

Bottom line, service in general in this country is crap and those who are good at service stand out, Rick is one of them.

A farm equipment salesman once told me that the Kubota brothers had a huge disagreement over manufactuing issues.... and the one Kubota brother moved to Korea and opened the Kioti factory for spite!

I will frequently say that if I need to go kick the tires at a different dealer before making up my mind...

Rick as an insurance salesman my self I understand. It is amazing how much work you can put into educating a person and then they come across a Internet or fax price they jump on with no idea what they bought. It does not make you feel good when later you hear how their decision blew up on them costing more than they can afford.

It is true, there is little you can do for stupid. You can educate the ignorant.

I understand the saleperson mentality and that is why I have not hired one yet.
I don't want to follow around cleaning up a mees that a saleperson left behind.
Sometimes I feel my mechanics make a better salesperson better than most of the seasoned salespeople out there, at least they no how the machines operate.
I think to many people hire bankers as there sales people, you know the ones that just know how to flip numbers to make it look like your are getting the deal of your life time!
In fact you didn't even get the tractor you needed.

If the guy really wanted the Kubota engine, why not buy a Kubota tractor? I don't get it?

Eddie

Most likely due to a higher price for the Kubota, that and the particular features available on the particular model Kioti over the equivalent Kubota.

Kubota makes good engines and if they were included in a tractor of another brand that would be an improvment. Kinda like putting a cummins in a Ford, a lot of people would rather buy a Ford than a dodge.
