FYI all that might be interested. I just got my set of paper wheel knife sharpeners from Grizzly tool. One is a carbide grit covered wheel and the other a paper wheel you put rouge on to polish the final edge. They work GREAT. I can put a razor edge on just about any knife in a few seconds. I have done everybody's knife I know.

How about a model number?

I've read those things work great. Where did you get them from?

Grizzly Industrial 1-800-523-4777 Model G5937 $33.95 . I picked up a cheap table top grinder at Lowes. The wheels are 8" but can fit a 6" grinder if you take the covers off. This is my second set. I wore the other set to a nub. They will send you a great wish book / catalog with your order.

Many years ago, there was a fellow at a flea market who had what appeared to be the same paper wheel. At that time, he was sharpening knives and charging $1 per blade.

If they made that kit in 6" size as well as 8", I'd buy it, but I don't want to remove the guards and put an 8" wheel on my 6" bench grinder.

On e of my hobbies is woodcarving (see pictures) and I use a felt wheel with compond to put a final edge on my tools. One thing that makes it easier is to rig up the grinder so the wheel turns away from you and not toward you. This way you can see the edge you are working on without the chance of getting the edge caught in the wheel and sending the tool flying.

that's a good idea....

you could buy a cheap motor at the flea market, buy one of those little adapter for like $5 at the hardware store..

then just set the whole thing in a direction that the wheel would turn away from you....

pretty slick.....

more expensive but for sharpening wood lathe tools, those slow turning wet stones work great.......i think grizzly is making one now.....
