4720 SCV Float mode?

I stand (actually sit) corrected! I know the 4x00 series did NOT have the float, and I did not think the 3x20 series did either. Is this possibly only with the cabbed models?

Its very possible its only on the Cab models....just like how the whole "blending" thing seems to work fine on every cab model, but the open station guys are 50/50...some it works on, some it doesnt.
The Cab models do have a different valve bank...If I had to go out on a limb and make a wild guess, I'd say all the cab models get the same valve bank which allows 3rd SCV Float AND the Hydraulic Blending between all 3 banks...(tested it with my 3rd SCV and loader function)... and the Open station machines had a supplier switch, specification change, or something like that along the way...

Another thing...I've never had to force any of my SCV's into the float detent, they just smoothly click right into position....I had some business to do at the dealer this AM so for kicks I went into a brand new cabbed 3520, and it too went effortlessly into float...Dealer Setup? Cab Valve Bank vs Open Station? I dunno....

It's not so much slamming it in but they are designed to take enough extra effort to engage past a detente, otherwise if it was so effortless you might be engaging at times that could be dangerous, such as having a heavy load up high off the ground.

I just put in a 3rd scv in my 4310 and I'm pretty sure it has a float position, haven't tried it but it does have a detente when pushed forward, there is a zero symbol over a wavy line at the bottom of the sticker that came with it, does that mean anything?

Karl, you do want to learn what those buttons do, one of them is motion match which sets the acceleration and deceleration speeds, which comes into play if you go from high gear to low gear. I've got a 120 page owners manual that goes into pretty good detail about the many features.

I was kinda kidding about my utter incompetence with cruise modes, I think I can actually learn to use them ;)

It's just that I thought that since the extra cruise modes are, well, extra equipment that I would not have ordered myself (I bought this tractor second-hand), leaving them disengaged and using standard cruise would make the machine behave like I expect it to behave. Is it really worth using the extra modes? If it is then I'll use them, after all I paid for this stuff may as well have fun with it.

To be honest with you I never use the cruise buttons but they are fairly inexpensive options, and maybe standard on cab machines.

You have the speed match cruise system same as me, the button on the left of those 3 you circled is the speed match button, push the top of button to lock a speed, use the 2nd button to +/- speed just like a car. push the bottom of the speed match button to set a max speed, so then it doesn't matter how far you push the pedal you'll only go the set speed, though I don't use that feature either I think it would come in handy for certain tasks.

The button on right is the motion match and if your not careful you could get into trouble with that, I mostly use med or low range on the tranny so I set mine for the quick starts and stops in shorter distance, that's with the top of button pushed in. for high range operation over the road or other longer travel distances you want to engage the bottom of the button so it's a little slower accelerating up to speed but more importantly when you let off the pedal it will slow down more gradually, if you had it on the shorter distance setting and were going fast when you let off the pedal I heard it could be pretty rough and may try and throw you forward, though I never tried it.

Edit; I see you have a snow blower, that max speed option on the cruise system might be real nice to use for that, that way once you find the sweet spot you set it and then you just hit the pedal any amount and it will find that same speed, unlike the reg cruise you could be off and on it much quicker.

My 2005 open station 4720 has float on the 3rd SCV, checked it tonight. Dunno what to use it for yet, but I'm sure it'll come in handy sometime.

I have the upgraded cruise, and really like it. Haven't used it all that much, but for mowing it was great. The speedmatch will be great for tilling. It was cheap too, ~ 120$ CDN, and took all of 30 minutes to install.

More buttons = More fun...... Lately I've been wishing for a heated seat button.

Ya kinda of makes the hydra machines a little closer to a gear drive, keeping a more controlled speed, even on rough terrain with your foot bouncing up and down on the pedals.

This brings back so many memories of when i first got a 4720. I still enjoy it every time i am out and about in it.

Those switches are definitely different from the factory setup, but to each his own. Know a guy who switches his hydraulic hoses around so people cannot just hop aboard and run his tractor.

Please enjoy responsibly!!

Yeah I was gonna switch the switches back to factory but then it started to snow pretty seriously and I ran short of time, and now I'm used to where they are so there they will stay lol. Also now I can see why previous owner wanted PTO knob and hydraulic diverter switch placed where they are, it's a good config for snow removal when you constantly shift hydraulics from front loader to rear blower. Coming off the main SCV lever your hand sort of falls at the right place.

yeah, it's more of a swift-rapid technique of throwing the levers forward to engage the float mode. I use it 90% of the time when removing snow. If I didnt' I'd be going through a lot of bucket blades.

I still don't understand why float mode appeared not to be working when I first used the tractor. Works perfect now but I haven't done anything to it. Bucket is now slightly warped on top but that was to be expected from the light-duty factory bucket which is definitely not suited for commercial snow removal. I have a heavy-duty reversible/extensible snow bucket on order but it won't arrive 'til next month, in the meantime rear blower does overtime.
