Hi all. I did a dumb thing and ended up snapping the rods (internal to the cylinder - the threaded ends) on my 32LC loader cylinders. Unfortunately, I can't obtain rods only - need to purchase the cylinders (at least from New Holland) at over $1K a piece. Ouch. Dumb mistake for sure.

When I visit the New Holland website for parts - there are 2 different bucket cylinders for the non MSL 32LC. There is a BSN and ASN (before serial number and after serial number). I have a BSN loader - thus the bucket cylinders are not serviced for parts - replace entire thing only. However, it shows the separate parts in the diagram.

Does anyone know why there would be a difference in cylinders on the same loader? Why can the newer ones be serviced for parts while mine (from 2004) is not? I am trying to find who makes the cylinders for NH. I can't justify spending a couple grand on this dumb mistake. (NEVER drive with the bucket rolled forward all the way and impact the ground while traveling).

Any help is appreciated. Any idea who makes the cylinders? Any idea why I can't buy a rod only?

Thanks.

Look in the phone book under "hydraulics" and find a local shop. Often new rods can be made for a fraction of the cost of replacing the whole cylinders.

I'm in complete agreement with kennyd. I'd spend a lot of time on the phone calling hyd shops before I'd spend that much money on those cylinders. Heck, the hyd shop might even be able to replace the whole cylinders for 1/2 the NH price or less.

Good luck! It takes a real man to admit his mistake like you did.:)

Too bad he's on the opposite side of Pa. I could probably do rods and seals on both cylinders for well under 500 bucks.

You might want to measure your cylinders and look at this place. www.baileynet.com. They might have very close replacement cylinders for less than what rods will cost.

Pack them up; ship them to Wayne County Hose.

Well....I did research local shops and the price was much more agreeable. $245 per cylinder to make new rods, install new packing, check bore and ream if necessary, and pressure test. I feel that is quite acceptable for the amount of work.

I did check out the websites you recommended and I can't find a direct drop in cylinder. But wow...I am still shocked that NH wants $1100 per bucket cylinder. Even on newer 32LC loaders for which you can get parts for the cylinders - the rods are over $250 each (plus install/etc).

Thanks for all your input. I didn't take pictures of the broken rods - but if you look at a schematic on the NH parts website -- I broke the threaded ends off the rods - inside the cylinder where the seal pack is retained.

Note to self--don't be a dumba$$ with your tractor.

Also...starting to look for a snowplow to mount to a skid steer plate. I figure if I can keep myself from dumping and driving (when plowing snow), I may be in a better position. I've always wanted to have one since plowing snow with a bucket can be a pain (still a millions times better than shoveling!). Has anyone tried a snowplow mounted to a universal mount plate for their loader?
