Here in Quebec a complete septic system was $4000 or so about 3-4 yrs back.
Today because of our new environmental laws.
Now a typical system is $12-13,000.
The cities now insist on a 'soil evaluation' which only a liscenced soil engineer can provide, then if they like that report they most often want an 'equoflow' type of absorbtion field which is a 12-16 ft fiberglass type dome with peet moss absorbtion inside.
I dread to face the time when some official requires the peet mass to be changed!
Sure, we needed some regulations to do away with the old 'dry wells' or sewer pits but there was nothing wrong with a good sealed properly rated tank and a good tile field.
Not only that, but we now have provisions for fines if the tank is not pumped every 2 years.
Our city's main focus at present is to register all fields on a data basis in order to collect fines.
While at present pumping is $140-150 I fear that that fee will soon escalate rapidly citing fuel costs, regulations etc etc.
Another cash grab.
While they want complience they are not prepared to inspect but rather rely on complaints from neighbors.
