scott vt: can you load wood in to that from the outside?

Good Mornin Flatheadyoungin,
No the wood storage bin on the right needs to be loaded from the inside !:( Although now that we have a propane insert inn there we use it for CD storage ! :)

more storage is always a good thing!:D

i was just curious.....

i'd like to build a real wood burning fireplace and put in gas logs.......but, in the event that everything goes to pot;) i could just pull the logs out, quickly, and go back to burning wood...

just thinking out loud, here....

after we get a better hold on what/when/how we are going to build, i'm going to start a thread on various subjects to get everyone's opinion; geothermal, stone fireplace, other types of heating, etc, etc.....

Anyways heres mine, with the gas insert !

The dogs really seem to like our gas insert as well:D

Put in my gas insert earlier this year (wood fireplace is in the basement), and this month is the first time I'm using it. So far, VERY impressed with the back up heat it provides (took out the gas furnace and replaced it with a heat pump).

We put a wood burning insert into our fireplace. It works just like a gas insert but it burns wood logs as fuel. It has a glass door so you can see the fire. A blower pumps the heat out into the family room making it nice and toasty. We have 36 acres with about 20 acres of woods so I have an endless supply of wood to burn. Your dogs look really comfortable! - Mike

mbohuntr,

Very impressive fireplace. I really like the look of rock, and of course the height also adds to it!!!

I'm not the only one who enjoys a nice fire on a cold day. ;)

We use this solid fuel insert to suppliment our heating bill. We burn about 4 cord a year and it cuts our fuel oil consumption by about a third.

Built the mantel, over-mantel and hood myself.
