Cross post from pricing/comparison Forum:

OK guys, I know NOTHING.

I have 6+ acres in Florida with horses on the property. Also starting a small tree nursery, 30Gallon size or less. I want to buy a small tractor I can handle myself to do the "big" jobs.

Mowing pastures (must mow at 6" minimum)
Moving dirt/manure/hay
Grading
Possible auger for post installation (fencing)

I'm considering the Cub Cadet/Yanmar SC2400

main concerns:
fair price
dependability
service availability
operator comfort

Help! Didn't want to post in Cub Cadet section because I want to know what other manufacturers offer, my Dad is a John Deere diehard but I want to be an informed consumer and happy tractor owner.

Addendum:

OK, dealer just offered me a 2007 Cub Cadet 5264DE with 60" mover, FEL, 26HP brand new, never used for $8975, the catch is, no warranty offered. Engine is a Daihaitsu??

Was initially attracted to the SC2400 for the Yanmar partnership, this model doesn't offer that but then the price is attractive.....

Bring on the comments!!

Your price on the Kubota site for the SC2400 is high, I have been quoted 12500 for Tractor/FEL and MMM plus there is 750 dollars Visa card rebate.

It sounds like you might want a larger tractor? THe EX3200 price for tractor and loader is around 15K.

In my opinion, I'd lean toward the Yanmar. The 5000 diesel series have been really problematic for Cub, to buy one with no warranty...

Good Luck,
Curt

This would scare the pants off of me.
A tractor with a record of defects and no warranty on it.

I've commented on here previously about this subject and I am sure there are probably many other threads about the 5000 series. However, I owned a 5000 series 5234 and now own an SC2400 and I think the Yanmar built Cub is much better. I would run from the 5000 series with no warranty...just asking for trouble. I also agree with kcook and think that the 2400 may be a little small for your needs. I know its more money now but if you get the 2400 series for less money and it doesn't do the work you need then is it really worth it...just my thoughts. Have fun shopping

A plus for the jd lover is that Yanmar is who put jd on the map for a quality product in the compacts!

A mounth or two a go i stoped by a cub dealer that sells the new cub-yanmar i test drove the sc2400 with a FEL it was a sweet machine and someday i hope to get one. That said they had a couple of the 5000's in the back of their shop i asked about them. They had been returned and the salesman said they won't even consider reselling them he said,"they have been nothing but trouble."

Also my local cub dealer that doens't deal the cub cuts did sell one 3 years ago on a special order, it is a 5000 not sure of the model# but it is a4x4.any how i see it in for repairs all the time.

By just looking at the 5000's they look heavy duty and a great looking machine but as the old saying says don't judge a book by it's cover.

I'm no expert so don't go by me I'm just giving my 2 cents worth.
GOOD LUCK

OK, everybody has convinced me that the no warranty deal is a BAD IDEA.

cross post on buying comparison forum has also led me to believe this little tractor (SC2400) may be just that......too little, BUT,

my property is cross-fenced so much that pulling a bush hog/rear finish mower isn't really feasible, I would have to come behind it with another machine to get into the corners & then a weed wacker for fence lines as well, what a pain in the *****!

So, next uninformed question:

Does the next class size up even offer belly mowers? I haven't seen one.....

Yes, they do, the sub compact takes smaller rear attachments. Example: 42" brush hog, 48" box blade, 30" PHD just to name a few.

The Cub Cadet warranty is a manufacturers warranty. How can a dealer sell one that's supposedly new yet say the tractor has no warranty?

I wouldn't just pick another tractor, I'd find a different dealer.
