Any poulan lovers out there

I backed over my 19+ year old craftsman chain saw with the tc40 this weekend. It pushed in the throttle lock, split the housing open and broke the d handle. I popped the lock back into place and the housing came back together. The saw starts, idles and cuts just like it used to. A new handle is 12.00 + shipping of 6.99. The old girl will be ready to go in no time.

I say 19+ years old because I got the saw from my FIL estate, and he passed in '89. It was used then. I mostly use it to improve my land, but on 100+ acres thats a lot of cutting. I hear those who think they're junk, but that ain't me.

Mark, I bought a Poulan chain saw in the early '70s, that had been used as a demo at the dealer, to cut my own firewood and never had a problem with it, When I retired and started full time RVing in '89, it was 15 or 16 years old, still worked just fine when I gave it away to a friend. After we quit traveling and had the place in the country, I bought a new Poulan at Western Auto on 3/26/97 for $119.95 plus tax and used it until we had to move back to town in Nov. 2002 and I sold it in a garage sale, so that was five and half years with no problem.

However, in more recent years it seems I've heard nothing good about them. One of my brothers bought a new one a couple of years ago, returned it for a refund in less than a month because he couldn't keep it running, and went back to Stihl.

Now that i have figured out the procedure of starting my Poulan chainsaw. It works great. I hate to put Stihl down but i have had problems with my weed eater for awhile.

How old is that Stihl string trimmer? My FS55RC is three and a half years old and no problems at all yet. But my next door neighbor bought a little cheaper model and had enough problems starting it that he took it back to the dealer at least once that I know of to have it worked on. I think you can get good and bad with almost any brand.

I have never owned a Poulan chain saw, but I do remember seeing it in as a best value rated in one of the ranking magazines, the big one, I can't think of the name right now. For the price I would have no problem buying one.

When I had my business I always used Husqvarna's.

My neighbor has a new Poulan, I had the opportunity to watch it in action last week....I will stay with my Sthils thank you.

My six yo HT75 Sthil pole saw needed a new diaphram in the carb a few months ago...old gas...my fault. The seven yo 025 and five yo MS260 ran just fine last week old gas and all.

I never left gas in my chainsaws unless I was sure I was going to use it again the next day. Otherwise, when I finished with it, I poured any leftover gas back in the gas can, then started the saw engine and ran it until it ran out of gas and died before putting it away.

and it is abused and used. Go through about 5 cords a year, ground engaging, nails, rotted wood, the ocassional opposum.

treat it bad, but it starts on the third pull, never been tuned, sits outside under a lean to.....

reading all that, I need to take better care of it.

I have 2 poulans, both are great, for the price. and have never had a problem with either one. I have a ~8 yr old wild thing, and 7 yr old wood shark one from wally world and other from Kmart. I LOST my 18" wild thing 2 years ago, (left it set behind a wood pile in late fall where it was moved to keep it out of way for tractor-ing) I thought someone stole it. Went looking to get some of the wood out & finally found it ~8months later, it started on the 3rd pull, was SUN weathered so now the top is a bit lighter green color, The weeds was over grown 3" high so you could NOT see it I hit it with a machete when clearing the over grown weeds from around wood pile that it was behind. I AND my brother had walked around that wood pile 10 times I bet, & never saw it might have even tripped over it once & thought it was a hunk of wood. Was a little DAMP & only slightly rusty!
The chains require a bit more tending to I think but I can't complain on the function. I do have a Poulan Pro pole saw that I'm not happy with, bought it new too. It will only run if the pole is less than 445 degrees!>? Guess they don't want you dropping limbs down on top of you're self...
