Hey all,

I love my tractor. Problem is my dealer is horrible.

My maintenance schedule says that I need to change the power steering filter element at 50 hours, but the manual doesn't show where the filter is. I asked my "dealer" and he told me it doesn't have a filter. Yet the parts dept at the same dealer sent me a part for it. Morons.

I called the 24/7 hotline, but I don't think any of those people have actually ever seen a tractor. Never have good luck with them.

So where the heck is this filter? The power steering fluid is filled in a housing that sits on top of my engine. There are some bolts and a plate on top that could have a filter behind, but it looks like I'll need a new gasket if I take that off.

Also, my maintenance chart states that I need to change the filter but not the fluid at 50 hours. There is a sticker on the side of the housing that states to change the filter AND the fluid. So which is it?

Good thing I have this website, otherwise I'd really be up #@#%@ creek.

Thanks!
-Jon

Jon,
The power steering filter is under the raised area of the power steering reservoir (Four small bolts in the cover). Very little fluid should be lost during the filter change. We do not change the p/s oil at 50 hours, just the filter. The manual that I am referring to calls for the fluid to be changed at 1000 hours. Hope this helps!

No gasket needed on this plate? Does it seal with an O-ring I guess?

Thanks for the info.

I honestly do not remember what type of gasket or o ring that is under that plate. What I do know is that at 50 hours I removed the 4 bolts and cap, pulled out the filter and replaced it with a new one and replaced the cap and bolts. I have had no leakage except what I would consider normal seepage. Oh, my local dealer said the same thing, that there was no filter for the power steering. Good dealers are hard to come by.

Being an Aircraft Mechanic for over 30 years:eek:, I asked for an o ring when I bought my PS filter for my 6520. My parts guy said the parts manual didn't have one.:( So I changed the filter and used the old o ring. Reusing hydraulic o rings is okay when you don't have new ones. It is fuel o rings that I change religiously.;) Diesel and Jet A tend to swell the o rings and they can pinch too easily when re using them.

In a perfect world the seals would be in the box with the new power steering filter. As you may have noticed, ours is not a perfect world. The o-rings are part of a kit p/n 007201223C2 (I think). Touch base with your local Mahindra dealer ans see if they agree. Hope this helps! Scott

Mahindra tractor appears to be quiet popular with most people.
How are its parts availability and prices.I do not see a lot of after market parts available.Your experiences will help me in taking the decision.
