Glad you are still around to tell the story. The tractor looked pretty crunched.

Exciting story about the tractor. I have a similar one with my dump truck!!! LOL

I was trying to figure out your counter top with the hole in it, and I have to admit that I didn't understand what the hole was for. I was looking at your pictures of your kitchen for some sort of clue as to why you wanted a hole in the log. Then it hit me, DUH, you used it for your sink. Sometimes it's embarassing how long it takes me to figure things out.

Thanks for the pictures and story, it's one of the most unique homes that I know of on here.

Its a good story for any who haven't heard it. And I think you have pictures right Eddie??? That is the one where your lake almost ate your dump truck?:D

Iron Horse, I truly love the house. Have any pictures of the view off the porch?

Thank you for your kind words , this is the only picture i have on file . I took it after i built the "Star Deck" . The 12' verandah is great but i could not see the sky at night . So i built this extension out of left overs so i can lay there at night and watch the satelites and stars . It has now got railing and stainless wire . This is another picture i just found of a storm head i took through the skylight window in the kitchen .

Eddie , sorry i was not clear . The big hunk of wood is the base for our dinning room table . The hole is only for asthetics (sp?) the hole is horizontal , as it appears in the photo on the square stand . It sits flat on the floor and will have a 3" polished timber slab on top of it the same as the kitchen bench only wider . By the way , your new Avatar is a keeper , handsome couple .

Eddie will like this one , it's even RED . After selling my Cat traxcavator , the only thing i had too lift things around was my old tip truck . I had a 30' house pole chained too the tailgate and it hung over the front of the truck about 12' . I'd hook onto something and raise the tipper body and it would act as a crane . The local hardware store delivered the Z Purlins for the roof but he got stuck on the steep section of the track to the house , so left them in the middle of the track . I had too move them , so i hooked onto them with my fully approved crane . The truck had a tailshaft handbrake , as soon as i took the weight , the topside wheel lost traction which allowed the other wheel to freewheel . Down the hill backwards , onto it's side . I'm holding my little dog that is bent around the gearstick while at the same time , stepping onto higher ground as the door is crumpling under my feet as we slide to a stop . I said was that fun ? Little dog said nothing , just gave me that DUH!look .

The other shot is the boards i had specialy made for the cladding . They are 6x1 1/4" hardwood . They sit loosely on top of each other with a vertical track on each end at the sliding doors . They have a capillary gap in the top to stop water finding it's way into the house . They act as the external cladding and interior lining all in one .

Wow, what a view. Does your property end at the dirt track there in front or keep going for awhile and how much property total? Maybe I missed it, and I am not really familiar with Australia's geography but what part are you in?

Now you just need a picture of the stars at night. But I think you will need a good tripod and a really slow shutter speed.

Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful!! Sounds like you might need to change your 'handle' From Iron Horse to cat of nine lives! Be careful out there, looks like it could be quite a ride to the hospital!
