If you have read my other threads you are aware that my husband and I are facing financial challenges right now. I hope by the time today is over we will be home free. In the meantime I am looking for every opportunity not to spend money. 2008 has turned out to be a horrible year for us, I can hardly wait for it to be over.

Right in line with everything else bad going on in our lives right now in the middle fo the harvest with mountains of dirty clothes the washign machine breaks, sigh... Turns out I missed a 6" long nail which we use in the harvest to nail the nets into the ground in a pocket, it got lodged into the washer drum and the thing wouldn't turn. 180 Euros later they bring my washer back. So real quick I ask if they want to exchange their repair bill in olive oil. Score one for us. He doens't take the whole bill in olive oil but he'll take half. Hey my hsuband was real glad with that arrangement.

The next night after the repaired washer was brought back the electric goes out in some of the overhead lights and some outlets, sheesh. My husband tries all the fuses and can't figure it out, he finally says, "I'm going to have to call an electrician" So I say, "Okay call and electrician" The electrican comes and there are two fuses blow additionally there is a fried mouse inside the electric panel. The electrician was actually cheaper than the washing machine repair guy. He fixed the problem for 2 bottles of 3/4 liters of olive oil. We may be short on cash right now but thankfully we have olvie oil. Geesh our foreclosure attorney is working for olive oil, to bad we cna't pay our taxes with olive oil :)

Hey Rox,

Keep me in mind if you need hoses and fittings. ;)

I frequently barter around here. I do report everything to the IRS by the way. I trade the dairy farmers for fresh milk, I've gotten log length firewood, a compound bow, etc.

Hey I DO need hoses and fittings! What kind of hoses do you have around? What kind of business are you in? I am going to update my other thread in Related Topics about the attorney willing to work for olive oil. I think we are out of the woods.

The culture of olive oil here is very very deep. People really know the good stuff and everybody has olive trees in their yards if not for harvesting at least as an ornamental. When I am out of the area when I get back to this area and see the olive trees I feel like I am at home. I imagine it is the same thing in New England with Maple trees, especially in the fall.

Glad to hear things are getting better. :)

Well, a better question is what hoses don't I have around, it would be a shorter list. I have mainly hydraulic hoses but have access to food grade also. Brass, stainless, etc. Check this out. Wayne County Hose and Hydraulics | Hydraulic Hose Fittings | Hydraulic Adapters.

Rox,be glad to swap some of that maple syrup for olive oil but not sure how the over seas shipping is with Ag products. Lucky diesel prices are falling, thought for a while we were going to have to burn it!

It appears that oil, whatever its origin, is as good as gold.:D

the cash should be used as a wick in the olive oil UNDER the frying pan, or if you have lots of it, burn it under the frying pan.
