I caught a hard piece of ice in the snowblower fan and bent it slightly. The snowblower fan began to rub against the housing a little then the chain sprocket detached from the blower
drive shaft. This is not a repair I've performed yet. It looks like there are holes on the sprocket and shaft that line up. The parts diagram shows a roll pin and set screw near
the sprocket but it's not real clear. Any help would be appreciated. Picture attached.

Thanks,
Bob

Does anyone know if I just need a bolt to hold the sprocket to the snowblower shaft? If so is it a grade 5 or a hard bolt?

Thanks,
Bob

What you said in your first post is right. It uses a roll pin and allen set screw. Just a question, in your picture it almost looks like the chain may have jumped on the lower sprocket so that it's not on both sets of teeth. I may be seeing something else.

Thanks. The chain seems to be on Ok. I just slid the sprocket towards the tractor to try and see what I broke.

Where the heck is the set screw located ? I can't see it.

It has to be one of the holes in the hub of the sprocket. I would guess that if there is a key in the shaft and sprocket that it would be the one that lines up with it. I just purchased a used B2650 blower for my B1700 3 weeks ago and when getting it mounted on my tractor I lubed the chain and seems like I remember seeing a key on that shaft.

Bob,

Mine (BX2750) looks the same as what your picture shows. The allen set screw is right over the keyway on the shaft and mine had at one point loosened and the square key was almost out of the shaft. I tapped that back into place and tightened the set screw with some blue locktite. The set screw is pretty deep into that sprocket casting. I had a second hole on the sprocket about a quarter way around from the hole that the set screw is found in. That looked like it had a second allen screw in it. I removed the sprocket and found that there is not a second allen set screw, so I never did figure out why there was a second drilled hole there (the hole was not drilled completely through to the center of the casting.) That second hole on mine is now drilled through, tapped, and has a second allen set screw.

I've also bent my fan in the past, but could not repair that myself.....it required a trip to the dealer, but was apparently a pretty easy job for them, because I had it back the same day. Dyer, retired

Many thanks.

Now I see the set screw. Mine's way in also. I still don't understand where the roll pin goes.

Bob,

I pulled my 2750 parts manual out and I I don't show any roll pins at all for mine. The allen screw on mine tightens down on to a 1/4" x 1/4" x 1" key. The cutout on the sprocket casing and the cutout on the shaft (that you described as lining up earlier) is where that square key goes on mine, but maybe they use a roll pin on yours? The allen screw merely holds that key (or pin) in place and the sprocket can't rotate independent of the shaft.

I also now remember why the two holes for allen screws in my sprocket casing confused me.....the part manual shows there is supposed to be an allen screw in each one, but mine only had one drilled and tapped hole over the key lock. As I said earlier, now mine has two set screws. I would think that the sprocket can only shift a very small amount even when that set screw is loose and the chain connected, but mine almost had the key all the way out. If that had come out, it may have caused damage, but I suspect it would only have caused the sprocket to free wheel around the fan shaft without turning anything.

I don't know if that helps any, but the picture you provided looks exactly like my blower gearing. John

Thanks John. Since I can't move the set screw and with the storm forcast for Sunday
I think I'll try to put the blower in the truck and visit the dealer.

Thanks again all,

Bob
