Starter Trouble Shooting

My DR Mower has a 14hp Kawasaki, which normally starts fine. After sitting for the past several months and having recharged the battery, the starter is grounding out, as in arcing at the negative terminal. The battery cables are connected properly, yet somewhere it's going to ground. The brushes and armature look okay, yet is there some way I can test the solenoid? Thx

Have you removed the cable and cleaned it and the terminal?

Remove starter; should be pretty obvious where short is.
