I offered Oscar to bring my loader and box scraper over to his place and help level out some nasty ruts in his tractor paths but he said he'd do it himself with his old 3pt scoop, "cept it was broke"
So I took it to my shop and straightened it out, welded a couple of stops on it, patched some holes and put a new cutting edge on.
He was thrilled, said now it will last another hundred years! he asked me how much he owed me, I told him let me cut a Christmas tree from his property, said he doesn't have any trees but he's gonna make me a wreath. we're both happy.

Oscar reminds me of my Uncle Bill at 97 years he could still climb aboard his super C and super M and piddle around the farm spraying weeds, sickle mow his road ditches and blade the road to his home....passed away 18 months ago....sure miss him

I have a great, 2nd cousin-nicknamed Uncle Bill. He's 79 I believe. He works for our company Compton Ac&Heating, but he does yard work around our 35 acre farm. He still works good. He works Mon-Wed, and drives our little JD 455 with a fairly large trailer. He used to operate our AC B with the same wagon, but it was broken down and sittin' in a shop for a while, so we hooked him up to that. Then we decided that he was to old to be gettin' on and off that old tractor all day. With this change, he also gets hydrostatic, and instead of having to change tractors to mow, he just takes the trailer off. A lot easier on the old guy.

Some areas are getting so built up that farm land doesn't exist in them anymore. I'd rather live next to a farm than a mall, myself.

I look around now and sometimes wonder how great this country would be if we, for the most part, had stopped around, say, 1955-1960. Except for roads, everything seemed just fine then. I have talked to alot of people that grew up thru those times and, especially with the current state of the world, they have never disagreed.

What a great post JB. And the replies aswell. I dont know how many times I wished I just took the time or had the chance to just sit on the porch with some of the older guys and just listen.
