This pic shows a 2 position connector between the left fender and the rockshaft housing that is just "dangling" free. Look closely in the very center of the picture to see it. I think the harness it comes out of is part of the lamp wiring as it appears to go to the caution blinker on that fender. I haven't gotten my meter out to see if it has 12VDC when the lights are on. Any idea what its purpose is???? Does anybody elses 790 have that same connector just hanging around???

Mine has the same looking setup only the wires are Blk and the other Red w/ white stripe.

Probing it says it's hot when the head lights are on.

Edit; Do you also have one on the other side ?

There should be an exploded wiring diagram for your 790.
Sometimes I can't find a snowflake in a blizzard. Could you point me in the right direction ?

With JDParts you'll need to sign up - user name and password, etc. Nonetheless, I found this: John Deere - Parts Catalog

It shows the "dangling wire" but no description other than it's a part of the "wiring harness, lighting".

I had the same thing on my JD 970 and I tapped into it for halogen lights mounted on the ROPS. Installed both front and rear. Need to be mindful of the amp draw. I think that circuit is 10A (on the 970, anyway.)

One of the best investments for owning a tractor - IMO - is the Technical Repair Manual. (But, sitting at the computer; I log into JD parts quite a bit, too.)

Picked mine up on eBay.

Here is the electrical diagram. It shows it as an optional flood lamp circuit:

I don't think there is one on the other side, at least if there it's not readily visible. I do have a worklight (which works of course), but it's mounted on the right side fender.

I have a 770 and on mine it is used for a rear spot or work light.

It is for plugging in the factory work light. I had 2 lights installed when I bought my 790. I have used them in the dark several time. sure lights up the night behind the tractor.
