Does anyone know for sure what the normal setting is for the safety switches on a Massey 1215? I haven't done anything to troubleshoot the problem yet, but I want to spend as little time out in the cold as possible.

My 1215 acts like there is a safety relay that is permanently engaged. I.e. when I get up off the seat, it dies. I've checked all the levers, and everything is where it should be (PTO off, tranny in neutral, etc.) I'm getting ready to test the various switches, and I'm hoping someone can tell me whether I'm testing them to be open or closed.

If it was like the one on our 1523, the seat got wet, the the temps dropped below freezing, and it did the same thing. We unplugged it, and put a jumper in it. Problem solved.

We reconnected it after the seat dryed out, and that was the problem.

Let me know what you do, ok?

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think that's it. The seat switch is fine because everything works when I'm in the seat. When I stand up it shuts the tractor down. It is definately detecting operator presence.

I had a similar problem on my 1225 after going through some thick grass/brush. Turns out there was a wire hanging down underneath the operator's platform. The wire had a bullet connector that pulled apart when it caught on something. Put the connector back together and it worked fine. I then tied the wire up out of the way with a zip tie so it won't happen again.

I have a similar problem with my 1528. Last winter the tractor wouldn't start. It was as if i wasn't in the seat even though I was. I disconnected power plug going into the seat and jumped it with a wire so the tractor starts but is not as safe since it runs even if I get out of the seat in drive.

Last month my pants caught on the speed/nuetral control to the left of the seat (a common and dangerous design issue I feel, especially wearing shorts) Now the tractor wont start as if it is in gear even though it is in nuetral. I have to jump the solonoid to start it up which is dangerous because this bypasses the ignition key switch. To shut off, I apply the parking break and try to move forward which stalls the tractor.

Thankfully I'm under warranty so it's going in soon, it's just a pain to trailer it and tow it to the dealer 45 minutes away during the winter.

That's kind of where I'm at right now. If I leave the ignition switch off I can jump the solenoid to start it. I'm in the process of clearing a spot in the garage so I can pull it in and start the troubleshooting.

To shut mine off all I have to do is turn the switch to "run" and stand up off the seat.

I think it's the neutral indicator switch because my park brake was hooked up by the previous owner with a cut-off that ties into the neutral indicator, and it dies when I put on the park brake even when it's in neutral.

I started the troubleshooting process by replacing all the fuses. It cost about $3, and it fixed the problem!

I have no idea why it worked or how a bad fuse would be giving it that problem, but the fuse trick worked.
